mets in on Bengie Molina?

Didn't know catching was a priority now... especially with the bullpen and possibly SP and OF needs...

Here's what I think... Get a relief pitcher, get a solid back of the rotation starter who could also pitch long relief as needed and provide depth next year, look at a utility guy who can help out in the OF (perhaps a Freel or Catalanatto type?)

Don't worry about catchers, especially a $6 million one who will produce about the same as Castro... If we are that worried about Schneiders offensive offense, then play Castro 5 games a week, and use Schneider late in games and on the other two days..

””The Giants committed to me, and I want to stay committed to them,” said Molina, who also has been linked with the New York Mets. “I have a job to do here.”“

oh, for chrissakes

I’m inclined not to credit that report with much seriousness, but who knows? If this team weren’t run by monkeys, catching would be priority #67, behind yoga training for the ball-boys. In fact, if the Mets could deal a catcher (preferably Schneider) for prospects at the deadline, they’d be well advised to do it.

i agree wholeheartedly w/anonymous

...however, I wouldn’t even go so far as to give the front office credit for being monkey’s. they don’t even register as primates in my opinion.

(voice of Jim Mora saying: “Playoffs?“) Catchers?? Catchers?? Who said anything about Catchers?

uh…forgive me. Am I watching / listening to games different from what the Wilpon’s and “Oh my god another pitcher is hurt” Minaya is watching? BULLPEN DAMMIT!!! You need BULLPEN help. The batting / offense is there! You don’t have one s.o.b. that is a sure thing in the 7th and 8th innings on an everyday basis.

Remove your head from your rectum and go get some bullpen help!

Another catcher?

Why, so Jerry can give a semi-valid reason for not playing Castro more?

probably we'll trade Castro for him

because, you know, just not playing Castro isn’t stupid enough

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
