Yanks Acquire Pudge

According to Buster Olney, the Yankees have acquired Ivan Rodriguez from the Tigers, possibly for Kyle Farnsworth. More news as the story unfolds, I'm sure.

This isn't the 1998 version of Rodriguez, but Pudge is still a decent hitter for a catcher, though his defense and throwing have deteriorated considerably and he rarely walks. Still, if all the Yankees had to trade was Farnsworth I'd say this was a decent deal for the Bombers.

Pudge had his $13 million option for 2008 picked up before the season, so he is a free agent at the end of the year. He was the last Type A catcher according to this past offseason’s Elias rankings, so if he stays right there the Yanks would get two draft picks were he to sign elsewhere at the end of the year.

decent pickup indeed

Actually a pretty good one when you consider the draft picks, for which the Yanks are giving up nothing but Farnsworth (= nothing) and money.

I want to post his '07 line again.

When people were on here talking about adding Pudge to the Mets, I lol’ed and posted this:
.281/.294/.420 with 11 homers and 9 walks. lololol. More homers than walks… who else does that?

Kyle Farnsworth is cool. (and an average relief pitcher. He’s been better than Heilman, Feliciano, and Duaner.)

I'm not sure this is a good move

Pudge is having a good year at the plate in part due to a .340 BABIP. His defense has suffered too. Molina can’t hit but he has a cannon and nobody can run on him. Farnsworth was having a good year and would probably be more valuable down the stretch then the offensive upgrade but defensive downgrade that Pudge brings.

This also leaves another hole in

the Yankees’ bullpen. After moving Joba to the rotation, there’s just not much left in the pen for them to rely on. At least they admitted that much.

what?! no METS trade(s)?

ho – hum, just another day in the life of a METS fan watching everyone else get better while watching the METS do nothing.

wouldn’t surprise me to see pudge pick up his production just because he’s any a YANKS uniform…but that hasn’t seemed to happen w/NADY so…who really knows?

am I missing something? now there’s serious talk of 3 way trade and the MARLINS might get MANNY? uh, excuse the ever living hell out of me! at what point do the idiots w/the keys to the METS mansion make a move?

speaking of making a move, tonight instead of blogging i went downstairs and had some chinese food and beer & wine w/my neighbor. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL she is!!! whoa man! Am I smitten. Guess what? She’s getting ready to move to New York. Agghhhh!!

I've visited Manhattan once...

I lived off and on in San Diego and L.A. for 13 years. SoCal would give NY a run for its money but in the final analysis…Yes, NY wins.
