Around SBN: Mets Fans Say Good-Bye To Shea Stadium Bar-right-arrows

Is Jerry Really Any Better?

Things that went wrong:

  • No timely hitting
  • Didn't rough up Happ when they had the chance
  • Santana had the nerve to pitch a bad inning
  • Jerry Manuel has shit where his brains would normally be

And like that the Mets are 5.5 back. Happy independence day!

To my credit

I was only there during the Beltran-Doesn’t-Earn-His-Money stage of the game.

The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.

weird

you always seem to be there during those times, and disappear when he singlehandedly wins games for us. crazy, isn’t it?

That *is* weird

Just lucky I guess.

Once.

He won one game for us. After three distinctly shoddy at-bats in the clutch, he finally won one in the 14th inning that night. That’s been it. And I was there, giving him credit.

Seems like a long time ago now.

But at least he’s not the Marlins closer tonight.

Beltran

I just checked with the Elias Sports Bureau and apparently any run driven in on a double, homerun, etc. in the first seven innings of a game only counts as half a run, and any driven in after the seventh inning count as five runs apiece! Who knew?!?

i don't want to call you a troll

because you seem like a legit fan, but i really don’t understand what you want from the guy. i’m looking at his career splits, his OPS w/ risp is .919. mr. superclutch derek jeter’s? .839.

the King of Clutch, david ortiz? .928. he’s barely better than beltran is in these “clutch” situations.

man

people on metsblog whining about how terrible santana is for giving up 2 runs in 8 innings. i just don’t understand how people can stand to be so ignorant. it’s disheartening. if they’re this ignorant and are supposedly diehard fans, who knows what else they’re ignorant about (like, stuff that actually matters in the long run)? Scary.

by gogomets on Jul 4, 2008 11:18 PM EDT   0 recs

haha

These are the same people that are Beltran sympathizers. Don’t blame the $20 million dollar man and his gentle emotions.

btw

they all hate beltran, so i don’t know what you’re going on about. they even think wright and reyes are overrated losers.

sizemore
hamilton
upton

I paid good money

to watch this disaster. Manuel had a tough game. First of all Church needed to start this game, you gotta win with Santana an need your best offense and defense out there. I would have left Santana in for the ninth, and batting for Castro was silly.

Batting order

Isn’t it time to adjust the middle of our lineup to reflect the performance of the players and not their Reps? The 3, 4, 5, & 6 spots should be Church, Wright, Beltran, Delgado.

Any other thoughts to get more production this year?

by The Optimist on Jul 5, 2008 9:11 AM EDT   0 recs

Platoon Delgado

He can’t hit lefties any more
.215/.255/.366 621 OPS with 30k’s in 93 abs

by DoctorK16 on Jul 5, 2008 10:55 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

get better players

seriously…chris aguila, endy chavez, fernando tatis et al. are going to kill your offensive production, no matter who’s batting ahead of them.

This was a classic Mets game

The Mets are pitching their ace and the Phillies are pitching a AAA call up. Santana throws like an ace yet loses because the mets can’t score off Happ and make Durbin look like Walter Fucking Johnson. Then they take out Santnan needlessly and the bullpen loses it in a flash.
This team is unwatchable. I don’t say that because I don’t care but because I get way too pissed off to watch this shit anymore.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

by sireric on Jul 5, 2008 10:33 AM EDT   0 recs

you know what

I have been as tough as anybody on this site as far as calling out ZaBlanc about his anti-Beltran bias but Beltran was awful last night and it helped cost us the game. He looks like he can’t see the ball right now. As for Manuel, taking out Castro was dumb, taking out Santana even dumber. Not starting Church the dumbest of all. And once again we lose a tight ballgame in the 9th without Wagner getting into the game. Alou will never come back and we will be stuck with Aguila and Tatis for the rest of the year. Time to clean house if we don’t bounce back in this series. I start with the GM and Tony B, the jerks who got Willie fired only to replace him with this mindless fool. He has blown two out of the last three games with his idiocy.
