Ugh
While I clearly think giving Church the day off is the right move, this lineup is really dogshit without him.

So he's getting the day off
because of migraines? I guess this really makes Jerry’s move to give him a day off for Game 1 even more crazy.

Well
Surely he couldn’t have predicted the migraine. If Church were to get a day off it would make sense that it be one of the first two games against a lefty, not today against Kendrick.

ah all the elements of mets baseball are here
unrequited baseloading, stars useless with RISP, befuddlingly bad defense. I feel so at home.
At least it gave us a new nick: “Wave em off” Marlon.

The step back the Mets took this year.
All-Star teams announced. No Jose. No David Wright. No Beltran.
The 2008 NY Mets: Reyes singles. Castillo infield single. Wright walks. Beltran lines out. ZaBlanc bitches. Delgado strikes out. Reyes picked off third. Fans boo. Padres win 2-1.
by ZaBlanc on Jul 6, 2008 3:38 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wright, Reyes
Wright was rightfully beaten out by Chipper. Chipper is having a great year. That said, will he play? Reyes should be there. Pitchers haven’t been announced, nor subs. Santana will be there. Wright will, too. Beltran won’t, though. Hopefully Reyes doesn’t get in…he can use the shot in the arm, plus, I’d like to see him get some rest.

We already know about the reserves
and Wright and Reyes aren’t among them. Nor Santana. Billy Wagner is the sole representative from the Mets. And honestly, I don’t care. Better our stars get rest than participate in a sham exhibition.

Looking at the reserves, I don’t like Clint Hurdle’s pick. Can’t expect better froma guy who should have been fired before his team sold their souls last year.

It's so fucking painful to watch Perez pitch a great game, the Mets waste opportunities in every single inning,
and then a bullshit ball call on 3-2 to Utley, and now bringing in a much inferior reliever with 1st and 2nd with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Why can’t managers get it through their idiotic skulls that IN THE HIGHEST LEVERAGE SITUATIONS, ONE SHOULD USE THE BEST AVAILABLE RELIEVER, and that is Billy Wagner, the expensive closer.
And now the rain delay.
by JohnPeterson on Jul 6, 2008 4:25 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Keep raining.
The offense has killed us all year. The Mets could easily be on their way to 3 wins ina row IN PHILLY. How great would it be? But, barring a miracle sustained rain storm, we may very well go down 1-2. And that’s our problem this year.
And once again I’ll say it…no matter how irritated it makes everyone…but you guys have to STOP trying to sugarcoat our season with numbers. All the numbers in the world can’t hide the fact this team is NOT a contender right now. Someone, or two, needs to make a change. Either Delgado has to find his old stroke back, or Alou needs to get healthy and produce, or Perez and Maine have to keep pitching like they are.
BTW, again, great trade…give credit where it’s due. Benson for Maine. Nifty.

Hide behind the numbers. Forget everything you see. Clutch single indeed. But TATIS has hit two bigtime homers this year for us…and he plays a fraction of the time and gets a fraction of the money.

interesting stat
I have the Sox-Yanks game on the tube. (I am watching our game via MLB.TV.) Francona’s on-field managing is becoming a bit suspect. As of this moment, Boston is 1-for-6 in stolen base attempts in this series. (Why would you want to run against Molina is beyond me.) Francona is giving away WAY too many outs.

Sure it is.
I’m not going to make points based on streaks. Beltran had a clutch hit today, and I cheer him on for it. That doesn’t make me change my mind, though. If I made sugh high-level points of the Mets weaknesses this year based on a 4-game streak, or one that would require me to take it all back because he managed an insurance single, that would be lame indeed.
Tatis did what I want to see Beltran (and Wright) do more often. It seems are biggest hits have come off the bats of Tatis and Easley this year. Weird.

I think you're beating a live horse
Almost everyone here disagrees with you. That doesn’t mean you’re wrong, but at least take a step back and think about whether it’s really worth the fight, and if maybe you’re not giving Beltran enough credit. You’re welcome to keep making the same argument, but I think it’s a losing battle, and don’t be surprised when you continue to get very little support for it. If you’re just one of those cats that will never forgive Beltran for striking out looking to end the 2006 LCS, well, then nothing he or we can do or say will change your opinion of him.
