Easley has to make that play on Lewis' ground ball
The call on Lewis running out of the baseline was terrible though. I continue to believe that it’s ridiculous that there’s no accountability for calls that umpires make.
by JoshNY on Jul 8, 2008 7:18 PM EDT 0 recs
Is it just me
Or do the umps save all their shitty, bone-headed calls for the Mets?
If that costs me swag points I’ll be pissed.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

another bad call against the Mets
See, this is where Willie’s pushover act hurts the team. It will take a while for Manuel to gain the respect (or fear) of the umps, but some base-throwing couldn’t hurt (not that he should’ve gotten tosses in that spot).

i would have picked up first and second base and cymbolled the umps head if i were managing
a dangerous precedent has been set: you can run around the mound to avoid a tag.

Linecum with illegal bandaid on his face
wow every NL Central team has two aces. Don’t worry we have El Duque coming back.

now you're being silly...
First-inning runs don’t count—when they are a result of a Beltran home run.

good news, bad news
Kazmir has struck out seven and walked none in three innings at Yankee Stadium. Unfortunately, Jeter poked a two-run double a few minutes ago to make it a 2-0 game.

nice to pull up the mlb scoreboard and see a 3 spot in the first inning. but, as someone already said, it doesn’t count because beltran did it

I must be hung over from the past eight games because it’s hard to keep the enthusiasm going. (However, it’s good to know that Pelfrey is doing a better job pitching than we are blogging!)

I present that home run...
As evidence to contradict those who say that Delgado is now only capable of hitting against bad pitchers.

No thanks but is Delgado quietly becoming
not so bad?

And Francessa isn’t so great either. I think it’s about time we get a Mets fan in the prime afternoon time slot on the Mets flagship radio station.

You know, I don’t like it when Reyes bunts, generally, because I just don’t think he’s all that good at it, and even in situations where bunting is advisable, doing so with someone who’s not good at executing it is dumb.
But WOW, that was a great bunt.
by JoshNY on Jul 8, 2008 9:13 PM EDT 0 recs
Do you think he SHOULD learn to bunt for base hits?

That's a good question
In the scheme of things, I don’t think it’s as important as keeping up his plate discipline. It’d be a useful skill for him to have, with his speed. But considering that he’s been in the big leagues for six seasons now (more or less), and that he really hasn’t gotten any better at it, I’m not holding my breath for him to learn now at 25 if he didn’t learn at 21 or 22. In any case I don’t think his inability to bunt for a base hit is what’s holding him back from taking his career to the next level.

Pelfrey and Perez looking better
If those two have figured things out, the Mets might have the pitching to take this division no matter how many times Chavez and Tatis (his bomb a second ago notwithstanding) start.
I haven’t been this excited about this team since early May.

the opposite of Benitez?
How does one explain Ollie’s starts against the Phils and Yanks and crummy outings against everyone else? Does he need nervous excitement to excel or is it plain coincidence?
