we can all wash it down with the $700 bottles of water that a company in Tennessee is making.
And for desert, we can gorge on Lobster Pudding.

Oh wow
I remember back in college when we used to rush over to McD’s for the 20 mcnuggets for 2 or 4 buck deal (it was some kind of cheap.) We’d be recovering from some kind of incident the night before and all punishing a few 20-packs with coke and fries. That was living. Was it chicken? I don’t know. Did it hit the spot? You’re damn right it did.
Dag
I recall a totally horrendous Hardee’s run with you and Godzilla after we got all drunk one night in Annapolis after you had graduated. I think I ate both fried chicken and a breakfast sandwich. I ran my hand over my stomach and said “It works . . . It works.”
'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'
by Catsmeat Potter-Pirbright on Aug 11, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Are you sure it was Hardees?
That does not seem like a place me and Godzilla would have been to in Annapolis. BUt then again, who knows. Did we at least get you over to the Mexican Cafe for some cheeze-covered burritos? Oh man those hit the spot in ten different ways.
It was definitely a Hardee's
I don’t know why we ended up there but, alas, we did. And, no, I never got me a cheese-covered burrito, dammit. I feel like you owe me.
'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

If that is the case, I think I failed you.
There are no 2000+ calorie chili-filled cheeze-covered burritos in Baltimore that come close to the amazing creations at the Mexican Cafe. Also, you can take beers outta the fridge while you wait. They totally just trust you to tell them how many you had. How great is that?

rain delay
even though downtown where I am it has not been raining for an hour and a half. Whatever. Kunz should stay up by the way. Why the hell is Carlos Muniz still around?

Muniz is special all right
to the other team !!
also
if we really want to get picky, does anybody else think it is strange that guys like John Niese are not even on the 40 man roster but useless people like AHern and Colazo still are. This makes no sense to me. Is that critical to keep the clock from running on a guy like Niese? In a pennant race, you need to call guys like him up once in a while if you think he can help and the fact that he is not on the 40 man roster should not be the reason why you don’t. Or am I missing something here?
Keeping him off the 40 man
also means he doesn’t have to be protected in the Rule 5 this winter. While we shouldn’t give up games b/c of such things, at this point it is felt that he isn’t that much better than Stokes, Nelson Fig, etc., in terms of spot starts. Though, if we need a starter for a month I’m sure Niese will be in play then
I'd imagine the clock is one concern
But I suppose we shouldn’t find it surprising when our spot starters have been re-treads and never-weres like Figgy, Vargas and Stokes. Perhaps the thinking is that, for one start here or there, the team is better off with someone with any major league experience at all as opposed to blooding a kid like Niese in the middle of a three-way pennant race. If it’s just about the clock, I would find that a little weird given that the Mets are, you know, a major market team and theoretically not as concerned about such things. Who knows with our front office these days?

Why did Evans have to double legitimately there? I was hoping to see him make a run at the record for times on base without benefit of a hit or walk.

not yet sure
Initial reports say pitcher Dallas Buck and two PTBNLs. Buck is nothing super-special.
Dallas Buck
is a third round pick who had Tommy John last year. I would say he is nothing super-special indeed.
some talk over on Sickels's site that Buck is a "sleeper"
But yeesh, you don’t want a “sleeper” pick to be the headliner in a trade for a star slugger. The real value may be in the PTBNLs (draftees from this year?) or else the Snakes have just got themselves a huge bargain even for a rental player.
Dunn tied for MLB league with 32 homers
has the HR leader ever been traded mid-season before? Get on it Elias!
Pedro can't seem to get it all together
looks like will have to go deep into bullpen. The way things are going the guys arms are going to fall off.

yeah
I sure hope the implication of the shitty prospect package is that he already declined to re-up before he becomes a free agent.
AZ still gets the sandwich pick?

FFS
This collective bullpen implosion is getting really ridiculous. We really thought the ‘08 Mets were a playoff team? How could we be so wrong?
they still might be.
in many ways their problems are no more severe than anybody in the NL. tells you what a joke this league has become. Yet their bullpen since the break has been the worst in baseball 6.75 ERA and those walks!!
I don't think our optimism was misplaced
Feliciano, Heilman, Smith and Sanchez have all been much better than this in the past, although Smith seeemingly tiring down the stretch again is a bit of a red flag. Still, who but the most cynical among us could have predicted such insane failure by all of them?

Wayne Hagin actually made a good point
No really, he said that the dumbass bunt by McLouth may actually have prevented that inning from being even worse.
whoa. seriously?
Amazing what can happen when I’m at work and not listening—perhaps every time my radio is off, Wayne is making analogies to Dostoyevsky and giving analysis based on VORP and Win Shares, all while calling the game impeccably.

I was gonna suggect some Rolaids, but tequila will do the same. Save the pain for tomorrow.
some perspective on Murphy
Other Mets to have similarly torrid starts to their careers include Gregg Jefferies, Alex Ochoa and Ty Wigginton. No Hall of Famers there.
In other words, I hope Murphy turns into an awesome everyday player as much as the rest of us, but let’s not make too much out of eight good games.
true, but this team could use a few more Ty Wiggintons
Of course you’re right, Murphy could easily cool off, and he could easily fail to devlop into any kind of useful major leaguer. But right now there’s just no downside to seeing what he’s got. Even if he turns into nothing more than a Wigginton-like AAAA player, with the strike zone judgment he’s show so far, he’ll be a great bench fixture for future years.
oh, I agree that it's good to give him a chance
at the game yesterday I said to my father (paraphrased), “the good thing about veteran players is that you know what they’re going to give you. the bad thing is that you know what they’re going to give you.” strike zone judgment is a great thing for a young guy to have though, and hopefully he can sustain his performance.
I totally agree
but again it his ability to take pitches that I think makes him fairly unusual for a young player.
you're right
but it’s fun hoping for the best. He does seem to have more patience than I’ve seen in a young player in a long time.

I think we can do that again. And Free Heath Bell while we’re at it!

Include Omar Minaya, and you'll have my approval
This is his fault. We’ve needed bullpen help for over a year.

to be fair to Omar
there was no reason to expect that Heilman and Feliciano would be so putrid this year
Feliciano? No. Heilman? Yes.
Apart from his great season in ‘06, his career has ranged from tolerable to flat-out awful. I’ve never liked him.

just popping in.
it’s times like these that i wish i DIDN’T get DTV to watch METS games.
you know what, it’s so bad it’s laughable.

the Pirates
right now are the worst offense in baseball. and this is what they do against this putrid pen.
good point.
for anyone to be happy w/Pedro’s performance today, they need to do a reality check, because the pirates are pathetic. hmmm….wonder what that means about us?

Really?
I mean, one run in six innings was a decent showing, given all the BBs Petey gave up today. I just wish Jerry woulda sent him out for the 7th to face the bottom of the order.

please
don’t be fooled by that performance. it’s like us being fooled by that glimmer of hope from HEILMAN filling in for WAGNER. simple premonition.
Pedro against Pirates. Do you think he would have done as well against the PHILLIES, CUBS, MARLINS, BREWERS or CARDINALS.
but i agree w/ya. Pedro should have pitched the 7th.

In addition to all this misery
thehome plate umpire is employed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Home plate, whatever

good AB
by Beltran. Now let us see what Delgado can do.
The only possible consolation
is that we are, after all, playing the Pirates.

But that's also the reason why we suck so much

i was beginning to wonder if the "un-clutch" had been used today.

SORRY,
THIS DOESN’T EVEN COMPARE W/THE 6 RUN 9TH INNING THAT THE PHILLIES SLAPPED IN OUR FACE.

actually it does
These are the Pirates. They can’t hit at all. The Pirates are mindboggling bad. Yet we melted down against them And we recovered to win the series against the Philles.
i'd post more choke photos
but the METS have had so many of these types of games, i’ve run out.
PITB?

depends
will Aaron Heilman be allowed to pitch to them?
I may need to stop posting
during week day games. I seem to be a major jinx for those games. also my unoffical count tells me Mets bullpen is particularly bad during thse getaway games
