Dumb Idea
The Mets shouldn’t be thinking of putting any of the starters listed in the bullpen. I could be out of my mind for saying this but a good starter is more important. You’d be better off putting any of the young pitchers you bring up in games as middle relievers. Take Niese or Stokes and put them in the pen to get their feet wet as middle relievers. If Heilman was a good or effective starter, do you think he would’ve been in the bullpen? In 25 career starts his ERA was over 5.00. You could be hurting yourself more if you put Maine or Perez in the bullpen—would they take to it well? If not, and the young starters falter, then you’re shooting yourself in both feet.
This 100-pitch limit has kept more pitchers healthy and effective longer, right?
"We praise or blame as one or the other affords more opportunity for exhibiting our power of judgment." Friedrich Nietzsche, "Human,All Too Human" (1878)
This 100-pitch limit has kept more pitchers healthy and effective longer, right?
I think so. You see a lot more dudes pitching into their early 40s. I’m with the guy at BP (or somewhere?) who said teams should take advantage of the shorter outings and consider going back to the four-man rotation.
less maybe
the fewer times through the order is always better for pitchers
Some manager should try a “twice through the order” rule for the starters with some good long relievers
reyes-to-reyes
1st and 3rd, no one out. good afternoon from LA, everybody.
they also
pronounced his name “ar-genis” instead of “our-anus”. they also called him “dan-yoo-ul” instead of “daniel” murphy.
Arr jennis, yes -- it was either his 2nd or 4th stolen base
Also, John Maine pitches erect per Don Sutton
million dollar question.
they will reference tatis’ 2 grand slams in the same inning AGAIN today?
i don’t know why that isn’t a daily swag contest question EVERY DAY. will the non-Mets broadcast team reference chan ho park: y/n?
it seems obvious.
oh my god
they just called him dan-yoo-ul AGAIN. i thought the first time was just an accident.
too bad their work isn't pro bono
then maybe more of us could afford to go to more games.

including last night's game...
the METS will play a total of 14 games against teams below .500 (NATS, PIRATES, BRAVES) in a row. If there is anytime to go on a serious winning streak, it would be…NOW!

right...
‘cause they’ve done so well against teams like the Pirates and Padres so far.
They had a statistic up
the other day and the Mets were actually two games under .500 against teams with sub .500 records. Thats just terrible.
hmmm...
that stat just gave me a mustard burp

Hey everybody
How’s it going?
"But it's not over yet, everybody thinks it over, but if we can just get the Earth to reverse rotation...this thing can be played again. So there you go, New York Mets......motherf*ckers." - Jon Stewart
Yeah, Keith
The Nationals suck because the defense is failing to make plays like the play Zimmerman failed to make Wright’s tough dribbler. I like him as an announcer, but only when he is bragging about drinking and smoking in the clubhouse.

murphy's law of RBI
“all things being equal, a dunker to left field will score one run”
OMG the pbp dude really is calling him Dan-u-el Murphy
and Sutton is still complaining about the 3-2 call to Delgado
why isn't sutton
answering with, “in his native country it’s probably pronounced…daniel”.
Maine RBI walk!
Nothing short of Mr. Koo-style exploits could make me happier than that.

These are how games against the Nationals should go.

I guess according to Keith
that plate appearance was neither a success nor a failure.

he can call me
I’ll talk him through it, for as long as it takes, on the condition that he follows my tough-love school of therapy and finishes the game against the Mets. And then pitches against them at least twice more this year… you know, to make sure he has a chance to get back on the horse.
maybe that will teach him
not to call Manny’s daughter and talk dirty
My right hand hurts
In between the knuckles on my index and middle finger.
Other than that, I’m doing pretty well.

oh wow, that's a 10
When I turned my TV on, the little popup display showing the input mode covered up the 1 so it looked like it was 0-0. Seems like the Mets are doing pretty well!
Beltran
Still not many HRs, but he’s putting up a lot of doubles this month. It’s a step in the right direction, at least.

Saw a bit in the bar after my game, and gotta ask: did Maine get lifted after the 5th due to arm trouble, or just as a precaution since the game was already out of hand

Precaution.

I already did the Giants and they went all the way to Game 7 of the World Series (I simulated the entire season)

2008 Season.
I got rid of Zito, Molina, Aurilla, Lowry, and Winn.

I had fair trade on.
I believe I dumped him on the ‘Stros and got Berkman.
It wasn’t just a straight up trade though, I think it was a three for three deal.
"But it's not over yet, everybody thinks it over, but if we can just get the Earth to reverse rotation...this thing can be played again. So there you go, New York Mets......motherf*ckers." - Jon Stewart
DAAAAMN
There’s nothing else the Giants could have given to make that trade remotely close. Well done.
by BobbyV_Incognito on Aug 13, 2008 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Thanks.
I couldn’t believe that they actually took it.
I had to go back and make sure that fair trade was actually on.
The contracts are a little weird on this game though. They change, Berkman only had a one year contract. I think that helped them decide to trade him…..even if it was for Zito.
"But it's not over yet, everybody thinks it over, but if we can just get the Earth to reverse rotation...this thing can be played again. So there you go, New York Mets......motherf*ckers." - Jon Stewart
6 months of Berkman is far better than 4-5 years of Barry Zito
Then again, so’s a kick in the nuts.
