Pedro time
I don’t think I’ve watched a full game of Pedro pitching this year (not deliberately, of course). I’m looking forward to it.

oh christ
Wagner’s elbow is still barking. I’m having visions of TJ surgery right now.
Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!
nice start!
Well, maybe the Mets have finally learned how to feast on bad teams. A little late, but I’ll take it!
good start!
Jose!
Gary forgot to mention that Jose is 8th in the majors in VORP, 1 spot behind A-Rod. That’s another reason to consider him for MVP.
Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!
this is exhibit A
In why the Pirates suck while Minnesota/Oakland/Tampa Bay are awesome (well, not the A’s this year, but still). The Pirates just have no idea to develop players, and have wrecked a promising young pitcher like Duke (as they did Oliver Perez before). Contrast that to Minnesota, who churns out young pitcher after young pitcher who succeed. TB too.
Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!
"this" is what?
Duke’s failure to become a great pitcher? I find the development-scouting part of the game kind of a mystery, actually — did the Pirates fail to develop Duke, or did they pick the wrong guy to try to develop? Organizations like the Marlins and Rays and Twins have great track records with young players, but is it a result of their coaching and teaching and how they handle them, or is it just that they pick the right guys to begin with?
both the right guys and developing them right
Gary and Keith were both talking about how the Pirates messed with Duke’s delivery and he’s been a wreck ever since. I’ve seen comments about how Duke was messed up by Pittsburgh’s incompetent coaching over at Bucs Dugout as well.

I see
I don’t really know Duke’s history in that kind of detail. I mean, with an organization like the Pirates there has to be some reason to blame absolutely every facet of the way the team is run — but I wonder if another club would’ve been able to do any better with Duke.
dude.
Do you have something to say? With, you know, some content?

Please? Use your words to express meaning?
Hey everyone!
Happy Saturday.

Hooray Jose!

if not for Pedro
Reyes would have had an inside the parker there. OK, he’s got the hard part of the cycle out of the way.

I can't tell if this is a joke
Are you six years old, or is this some kind of Andy Kaufman conceptual humor thing?
your snobbish comments are tiresome as well

Mets vs. Pirates
“He really has a way of throwing that baseball.”
—Wayne Hagin Apple
No Keith
For the billionth time, the Yankees have good enough pitching. Their offense is pretty average, and that’s what’s killing them. They scored 2 runs through the 12 innings today, and only won because KC’s offense is even more wretched.

Wright
Gets an out.

Haha
That was interesting.
They faded out too late.

what's going on
I step out for a couple minutes and Jose tears up the joint.
Is he freakin locked in or what?
I would say so.
McClouth kind of misplayed his triple. He was playing way too shallow.
"But it's not over yet, everybody thinks it over, but if we can just get the Earth to reverse rotation...this thing can be played again. So there you go, New York Mets......motherf*ckers." - Jon Stewart
I think so
I’m going into a no-hitter-like state of mind here, hoping for the cycle.
ha ha ha
That replay of McLouth’s moon shot was awsome just because of the family walking along the river who just kept walking as if the ball never rolled right in front of them and into the river.
Vote change: DePodesta/Acta in 2009!!!
that's a good trivia question
My guess is that Alfonzo driving in Rickey Henderson in ’99 is the record.

damn!
He hit that one a ton, but to the wrong part of the park. Of course, it would have been triple #2, not the double if McLouth doesn’t run it down.

I'm waiting
for when his skills start fading with age and the Yanks kick him to the curb like Bernie.
Then, if he signs with another team, do I root for him to make a surge and show the Yanks up, or for him just to keep sucking and finally be forced into retirement in disgrace.
There’s got to be a way to do both.
Rolling Rock?!
Really?
I’m trying to think if I’ve ever had that…..

Oh boy. That should be a good game.
"But it's not over yet, everybody thinks it over, but if we can just get the Earth to reverse rotation...this thing can be played again. So there you go, New York Mets......motherf*ckers." - Jon Stewart
with any luck
Perhaps the Mets can help punch his ticket for the return to Earth. The guy isn’t really that good yet.
I'm worried
It’s the perfect combination of a mediocre but lucky pitcher vs. the Mets inability to score any runs for Santana. My guess is they lose 1-0 on a bases-loaded walk by Heilman in the bottom of the 9th.

I'm glad he was allowed to finish the inning
With a lead this size against a team this weak, I’d rather see Pedro gut his way out of it (especially as his pitch count wasn’t too high) than ask for another inning from the bullpen.
yeah
A very sold outing for Pedro. He’s getting better and better. With Perez and Pelfrey both improved of late, the Mets rotation is turning into quite a strength.

Yeah a four year deal for Castillo is insane.
I would have only given him 1 or 2 years.

Does anyone else think.
That if we were watching this game last year, we’d be losing it by now?

for getting on Manual for not using KUnz. He must have known something we didn’t and no more Joe Smith PLEASE. He should never pitch after July. NOw that Wagner is no ready it is time to PANIC
Save America. Impeach Bush
So, uh, Eddie Kunz, huh?
Didn’t anyone think that maybe “leading the Eastern League in saves” doesn’t tell the whole story? Like, maybe they should’ve looked at his high walk rate (25 in 48 innings)?
Put it in the booooks.
Yay.
