GWRBI
The GWRBI should be
The GWRBI should be awarded to the player who puts his team in the lead for good, not the player who drove in the run which turned out to be the difference maker.
In last night's 6-3 Mets win, Daniel Murphy drove in the run which broke the 0-0 tie in the 1st inning, and the Mets never relinquished that lead. That's your GWRBI, not the 4th run (not driven in) in a 6-3 win.
MLB dropped GWRBI as an official stat since a 1st inning groundout would often qualify. I say that if the score is 0-0 in the 1st inning, the game is on the line, and a GWRBI makes sense. I miss that stat, thanks for reviving it.

GWRBI
We’re actually talking about it in this thread. Apparently the stat was abandoned because of the debate over its determination. You’re right that it was originally calculated as you have stated, though many argued that it should be awarded to the person who drove in the deciding run instead. That makes more sense to me, personally, though I’m more than willing to put it to a vote here. We’re just doing it for fun anyway.

its time has come
Why hasn’t somebody produced an RBI per RBI opportunity rating (RBIpRBIOR)?
You rate each plate appearance by expected RBI according to game state. (2nd and 3rd, 0 out is rated higher than none on, 2 out.) Sum up RBI and divide by the sum of RBI opportunity points.
That should give you an efficiency factor with more value than the small sample size of “BA when RISP, 2 out”, but with the juiciness of the ribeye to make it accessible the common man. It will punish players who draw walks in high leverage situations (Beltran) which should appeal to a certain segment of fans.

then idiotic, lazy sportswriters would only have 2 categories by which to vote for the MVP
and you know which 2 they’d be…
EqA and WARP3!!!
i’ll admit it, i started laughing while typing that. can you imagine skip bayless or wallace matthews, or bill plaschke talking about someone’s EqA?

no
But I can imagine Joe Posnanski or Rob Neyer or Peter Gammons talking about EqA, and you’ve gotta start with the intelligent writers and work your way down to the lowest common denominators.
