Thursday Applesauce
Ryan Church was transferred from Triple-A New Orleans to Double-A Binghamton last night to be closer to Shea, as he is slated to come off the disabled list to be with the Mets on Friday. Jerry Manuel has indicated that Church will not immediately be inserted as the Mets' everyday right-fielder, and that he will be used to spell Fernando Tatis until Church is back in shape.
At MetsGeek, Dan Scotto ponders a few random thoughts about the Mets.
In an exclusive to Athletics Nation, Blez reports that the A's plan on bringing Rickey Henderson back to the organization in some baseball-related capacity (not as a player, though).
Despite their obvious posturing from the day before, the World Umpires Association signed off on instant replay to review disputed homerun calls. No timetable has been set for its implementation, but we already know that MLB is champing at the bit to get instant replay in place prior to this year's postseason. WUA president and face-spit recipient John Hirschbeck put the right spin on it, saying "I told our members that it's just another tool that we can use to get the play right, not to look at it as a negative, but a positive."
Steven Goldman says the Yankees should be dismantled.

Church's return
Does this spell the end of the Robinson Cancel era?
'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

Cancel being cancelled?
If Willie was still manager, it would mean Pelf of Murphy would get sent to AAA.
"The people of Houston are spending money like oil's selling at $40 a barrel."
I thought that was Our Anus?
Maybe it’s both?

oh COME ON
Rickey wants to play! Won’t someone give the greatest leadoff hitter of all time a contract? I bet you he could still OBP .350.
yeah but he has a clubhouse cancer factor (CCR) of .670
so obviously no one would want him
Why take Rickey..
when they can have the (second.. third.. something like that) best hitter of all time? I bet he could still OBP .450.
What is his CCF rating? Something in the range of 50 million?
scrappiness is contagious
always use protection…
The leader among active players in catcher’s interference calls is Darin Erstad of the Astros with 13. Craig Counsell of the Brewers is engaged in a neck and neck battle with Erstad with 12 CI calls. Erstad is the only player I’ve ever seen reach on CI in person, back on July 19, 1998 when Chris Hoiles of the Orioles knicked Erstad’s bat. Or at least that’s what I believe happened as I recall also that I had to stare into the sun most of the game, so pretty much anything that happened at home plate was just a rumor to me.
Don't you mean
That’s a lot of “gritty gamerness”?
