Damn you, Catsmeat

You enter the contest to keep me locked in at #2 for the third month in five, but you don’t show up on the thread so I can trash-talk you out of your confidence and wreck your game.

I would call my voodoo guy and put a hex on you, but even I admit the thought of two brothers winning the contest does make for a feel-good story that can fill up the pages of AM New York. So I won’t give you the works. But I will keep you honest. “Catsmeat.”

Hey I got home just in time to see the first run score!

Trash-talk away!

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

You and your.... PHOTO! And that name!

You’re just in first place because of luck, man, pure luck. Keep throwing your darts at the dartboard for your random guesses, man, you know it can’t last. Why don’t you just quit while you’re ahead? No shame in that, ‘Meat.’ HA HA HA HA HA!!

Not really....

…You think so becuz the camera only got on him after he figured out he wasn’t catching it. He was prepping for the bounce.

Who is this Backass?

And why is he dispensing with our lineup so (Damion) easily?

Ugh.

We’re losing to the frigging Astros. Yech.

I may take a nap

to be fresh for the 2:30 a.m. basketball game. I can’t say I am enjoying this — especially since I’m off the sauce (for the time being).

Probably not, but maybe

Every now and again, I need break; plus, classes started on Thursday and I must be productive.

I was at the first game that Stokes pitched. He kept us in the game so theres always hope…..we have to get to this Backass guy sometime

Backe can be tough....

….he’s no “gimme”. He’s totally capable of posting 7 shutout innings.

We're hitting the ball hard....

Yusmeiro Petit...

Is he?

I remember he had some shoulder troubles after being traded by the Marlins. Pitching for the D-Backs now, right?

Seriously,

wtf is Jerry smoking bringing Maine out for another beating inning

by Simons on Aug 23, 2008 8:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Stretching him out...

..so he can be full strength his next time out. Long term, we need Maine to be right. He needs some innings.

by Omar21 on Aug 23, 2008 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am.

I think he thinks its important to let Maine get some mileage. We need him down the stretch. I don’t necessarily disagree.

by Omar21 on Aug 23, 2008 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, but

his arm is under some serious strain, so, like, shouldn’t we take it easy on him for the next six weeks? I mean if anyone deserves to be on a pitch count it’s Johnny

by Simons on Aug 23, 2008 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well,

I don’t know his condition well enough to make that evaluation. He’s dialed it up to 96 today, and his pitch count is clearly higher than 80. I’m assuming the Mets doctors know better than I do, which means he’s healthy now.

If that’s the case, he needs some mileage to let him find a groove. We can’t afford to wait 6 weeks at this point in the season.

by Omar21 on Aug 23, 2008 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

maine

i was hoping he was going to have a great season this year

by johnnyapple on Aug 23, 2008 8:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He's having the same season he did last year, essentially

His run support is down a bit this year and he has to deal with the same sh.tty relievers as Johan or anyone else. His K/BB ratio is worse but considering his busted wing he’s doing all right.

by Simons on Aug 23, 2008 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Expectations are a lot higher now too....

…which isn’t really fair to Maine. He’s an innings eater capable of posting a big game sometimes, which is great given what it cost to bring him here. The fans and media overrate him, so he “disappoints”. If you see him for what he is, he’s had a good season.

by Omar21 on Aug 23, 2008 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thats my point....

…he was cheap and he’s been a solid #3-4 caliber starter for us. That’s great value.

by Omar21 on Aug 23, 2008 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All the talk of JoJo's six

The bullpen as failed to convert four potential W’s for Johnny. A 14-7 record would look pretty good next to an ERA+ of 108 and more K’s than H’s allowed. Make that 14-8 after tonight, but still.

by Simons on Aug 23, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Bensons....

….forced me to do some soul searching as a Mets fan. “Do the Mets really mean that much to me?”

I was glad to be able to put a stop to those thots.

by Omar21 on Aug 23, 2008 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WTF?

I look away for 2 minutes and it’s 7-1? Is it too late for me to reverse the score prediction on my swag entry?

by BobbyV_Incognito on Aug 23, 2008 8:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't worry

Nobody picked anything like 8-1, and everyone picks them to win every night. You’re in good company.

by Simons on Aug 23, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Eh, 5-1, 8-1.

Either way you cut it, it’s not a pretty start. I just hope it’s only an off game for him, and not because his arm is bothering him.

by BobbyV_Incognito on Aug 23, 2008 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

at least he's on the field.....

..and he’s got his velocity back.

I don't know if Reyes can pull it off,

…that’s exactly what Reyes will try to hit…..and prolly end up hitting a pop up.

Hanley just destroyed one.

If there were such thing as an 8 run HR, that would’ve been it.

3-2, high heat to Hanley? Someone didn’t read the scouting report.

A couple more runs, and it’s almost a game.

I just realized something: the Mets are currently sponsored by 2 different banks.

And when they move into CitiField, it’ll be 3, assuming Sovereign and Capitol One don’t drop their sponsorship. It’s unusual for a single team to have sponsorship deals with competing companies, isn’t it?

by BobbyV_Incognito on Aug 23, 2008 9:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I mean, multiple car companies probably run ads during games by anybody

But I agree it would be or at least seem unusual for Citi to be paying them $20MM a year while they take another $5MM from rivals Sovereign / COF.
