Tuesday Applesauce

John Maine hit the disabled list last night, replaced immediately on the roster by Luis Castillo. The Mets will have to find someone to start when Maine's rotation spot comes up this week, and it might be Jon Niese, who is currently headlining at Triple-A Norfolk. Niese is 5-1 with a 3.65 ERA in six starts with Norfolk, compiling a 31-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 37 innings.

At MetsGeek, Alex Nelson looks at the pitchers the Mets will face in their mini series with the Phillies.

At the Hardball Times, PITCHf/x wizard Josh Kalk analyzes Pedro Martinez to determine how much he has left in the tank this season.

All I have to say is shut down Maine, get him fixed so he can come back next year…If we throw him to the wolves who knows how much damage and long-term hate we have for throwing him out while hurt. He is a mirror of himself right now anyways.

A mirror of himself?

Well, then, who isn’t? I think you meant that he is a mere shadow of himself.

And, btw, lose the ad link crap if you ever post here again, unless you’re paying for it.

Wow

I thought I was a giant nerd like you, but damn that IP technology article was boring.

really?

It just left me wanting more detail! What kind of switching fabric do you think they used? How much fiber did they pull, and did they pull Cat 5 to all the hot-dog stands just in case? Will they be providing networked content to fans’ handhelds for a really synergized experience? Where’s all the hardware located?

…yeah, can’t keep it up. That was a lot like reading an article on the new stadium’s plumbing.

Trough vs. urinal

Discuss.

no way

Everywhere I go in an average day (the firm, the country club, the Masonic Lodge) has a urinal. It gets boring.

When I get a notion to have Harold drive me to the ballyard, I need a novelty. I want to see how the salt of the earth drain their bladders of the Earl Grey and sherry they no doubt drink.

Urinal

When I’m in my seat, I can deal with cramped conditions.

When I’ve got my pants unzipped, on the other hand, I like a little personal space.

Hello, all

Contrary to the rumors, I am not dead. I was in CA for 10 days, and my Internet has been down for a couple of days. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to join you tonight, either.

Zing!

Ok, now I feel bad.

I wouldn't

We all need an editor from time to time.

I was inspired by Eric's comment that Olerud had the best 3-year run as a Met outside Carlos Beltran to look at a few different Mets, and when I noticed that two of my all-time favorite players (Alfonzo and Strawberry) were kinda screwed by having (relatively)bad seasons in between some really good seasons, I decided to see which Mets had the best 3 seasons, period (non-consecutively). Beltran still comes out on top, but my all-time favorite player Alfonzo comes in 2nd place, and him and Straw are the only two to have three 6.0+ WAR seasons. Also interesting that Hundley comes out ahead of Gary Carter, Cleon Jones almost finishes ahead of Mike Piazza, and Joe McEwing doesn't make the list.
