Bullpen Issues
Is it possible to just have a redo and start spring training all over again to find new relievers? Maybe they can promote the entire AAA staff and demote the entire MLB reliever staff? It's never been done, but this year calls for desperate measures. Blowing a 7 run lead, although 5 came from Pedro, is unexcusable. 1 run in the 8th and 9th inning....how do you explain that? The Mets achilles is just pitching plane and simple. It's ridiculous. Despite all they still lead the NL East until tonight. C'mon Omar M. Find some new blood b/c the old guys are just finding creative ways to blow HUGE leads and CRITICAL games and we haven't even got to September yet.

Well
I’m not one to regularly defend the bullpen, but despite a bunch of baserunners they only allowed two runs in seven innings until The Show was called upon to send everybody home. The bullpen didn’t blow a huge lead tonight; they blew a two-run lead. Pedro Martinez allowed five runs in five innings, so if you’re going to blame any of the pitchers tonight you should really start with him.

Yeah, blame Pedro
And Show really has very little blame to bear here. Yeah, he gave up the triple to Victorino, but he never should have been called in to face righties, especially in a do-or-die situation. But there wasn’t anyone left in the pen, so he was called upon to be the sacrificial lamb. Walking the bases loaded is a stupid tactic, but in that situation, the only chance is to get a force-out at home.

Show/Victorino
Victorino is a switch hitter, though one with more power from the right, which I guess is a little uncommon. In any case, Show was the last guy left in the bullpen, so really, what are you going to do at that point? You can’t keep Heilman in the game forever.
Actually, I thought walking the bases loaded was the right move. Victorino is really fast, so the odds of getting him out on a tag play at home are slim.

Also
The Schneid was back behind the plate. Not exactly the guy I’m putting money on to make a tag play in the clutch.
'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

I do understand why they walked the bases loaded.
There’s about a 1% chance of getting out of a ‘runner on third, nobody out’ situation unscathed. Loading the bases was really the only choice Jerry had. And yeah, Show was the last man standing in the pen. Like I said, he doesn’t really bear too much blame for the loss.

yup
A team will almost always score if they get a runner on third and nobody out; that’s why it’s considered a massive breakdown by the offense if you don’t. And with Victorino’s speed, just about any ground ball and any medium-length fly ball will score him. That game was basically over when he tripled.
