Around SBN: Shattered: Wisconsin's home winning streak ends

Rock Bottom: Astros 4, Mets 0

Wow. Nothing good to say, really. Eddie Kunz pitched a scoreless inning in his big league debut, so that was nice. The Mets' offense actually did a solid job of getting on base and and a downright pitiful job of getting those runners in. Eleven runners left on base as a team; twenty-four left on individually. Twenty-four! The Mets' top four hitters reached base ten times and had zero runs to show for it.

The Mets went 1-5 on their road trip through Florida and Houston and are just 7-9 since the All-Star break. They've gone from first place to third in that time, and the bullpen has completely fallen apart. As I write this, the Phillies just took a 5-2 lead over the Cardinals and are a couple of innings away from a three-game lead over the Mets.

Happy off-day!

I hate to be the pessimist but...

I think it’s safe to say that the METS season is unofficially over.

Maine to the DL and Wagner getting another MRI? Truly, why should we have any reasonable expectation of the a post season?

I think the most interesting time for the METS will be the off season.

I wouldn’t say it’s over. they have plenty of time to come back, they are only 3 games out. they need a spark.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

The Bullpen is a problem, but they can still win with what they’ve got in there. Those are the same faces they had in there when they won 10 in a row.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
