It Almost Happened Again: Mets 6, Padres 5
A win's a win, and with the Marlins on the verge of beating the Phillies the Mets will actually be only two games back despite all of the recent bullpen drama. Mike Pelfrey gave up two more homeruns -- both solo shots -- and has given up five homeruns in his last three starts but just nine on the year. Let's hope this is just a blip. His groundball rate was otherwise fine (12-5), so maybe the homeruns are a fluke.
Big winners: Fernando Tatis, +47.1% WPA, Pedro Feliciano, +9.3% WPA
Big losers: David Wright, -11.4% WPA, Jose Reyes, -9.3% WPA
Teh aw3s0mest play: Tatis three-run bomb, +36.4% WPA
Teh sux0rest play: Adrian Gonzalez homerun, -16.6% WPA
Total pitcher WPA: +19.1%
Total batter WPA: +30.9%

tonight i enjoyed good company, wings and beer...
AND I DID NOT WATCH THE METS GAME.
But you bet your ass I checked the box score as soon as I got back. W/relief I saw a “W” in the win column but then….I saw…the 3 runs given up in the 9th.
...Heilman. Does this guy have anyone on the METS ballclub that likes him? That hangs out w/him? He’s approaching Mitch “Wildman” Williams territory people. What is it w/this guy? Someone. Anyone. What is wrong w/this guy? I’m not trying to be funny. He needs to be released. He is of no value. Ladies and gentlemen…He sucks.
I read some of the post(s) towards he end of the game and even though we’ve been through this a number of times so far, people were duped into believing in this guy again. Forgive me, but the guy does not deserve anymore opportunities. He needs to be the last resort.

Release Heilman?
No way. The guy still has value, even if he’s going through a downswing. To be fair, Jerry should never have asked him to close the game. Given how he’s pitched lately, (and how much he’s been used all season) Heilman should have just gotten the night off, and Kunz, who is the only guy in the pen right now with closing experience, should have gotten the call. Instead, he was the “in case Show can’t get one lousy out” guy.

i'm really beginning to wonder what the meaning of "value" is

Exactly
Heilman could benefit from a few days off given how much he’s been out there lately. And in no way should he be closing.

Heilman
Let’s bear in mind that after the leadoff walk he got a popup that should’ve been an out if Beltran and the Reyeses hadn’t had their heads up their collective ass, and then a ground ball that should’ve been a double play. We all know what they say about giving major league teams extra outs.
Lou : Heilman :: ZaBlanc : Beltran
I refuse to give Heilman a pass...
regardless of the defense. the guy has no velocity and he is the epitome of “unclutch” followed closely by Mr. Beltran

jeez, enough with the "clutch" stuff
Ninety-five per cent of the time when people use the word “clutch” around these parts, it’s a joke. Get with the program.

what the clutch?
Maybe I’m just looking for new things to discuss with my coffee-clutch, but I’ve been clutching my good-luck charms in hopes that the Mets can finally drop the clutch and throw this season into a higher gear, and I still haven’t seen the clutch of examples you seem to have of people joking about such a serious matter as clutch baseball. Clutch baseball is no laughing matter.
nice work on all those examples
But I’m pretty sure it’s coffee klatch.
Close enough, though!

yeah, that was a stretch
Half credit for near-homophones, I guess. Just trying to push the percentage up to the required 95%.
Your efforts never go unappreciated.

Velocity
Average fastball speed:
Wagner: 94.5
Heilman: 93.2
Pelfrey: 93
Maine: 92.3
Santana: 91.2
Perez: 90.8
Muniz: 90.4
Sanchez: 89.6
Smith: 89.3
Schoeneweis: 88.9
Martinez: 88.6
Feliciano: 86.6
wow santana's speed has really dropped off
interesting. so has ollie’s, but maybe he’s trying to throw it within 10 feet of the strike zone
i can only laugh
thank you for the effort – Heilman’s velocity. Well, o.k. So, let’s talk about his command. You got some stats for that? The guy just sucks. (Another anecdotal comment from LOUtheMETfan) I’m exhausted just discussing the guy.

To be fair, Josh
I think it’s more like this -
Lou : The Mets bullpen :: ZaBlanc : Beltran.
I feel like Lou is pretty vocal about the current bullpen as a team, even if Heils gets the brunt of it.

you're too modest
There’s only one real reason Eric couldn’t be my sockpuppet, and it’s not writing, it’s that he’s already got one—anyone who could assume “erik from the bx” as his alter ego could write anything.

I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about
Who’s this “erik from the bx’ person you speak of? Sounds like a stand-up dude.
