yep
LOU definitely works much posting quantity per time spent on the blog.
'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

When I saw the roll call...
I told my buddy (CUBS fan) sitting next to me at work: “Hey, I slept through the majority of the game and I still got the most post(s).” Lo and behold, you guys recognized that too.
Thank you for your recognition, I only wish that I could contribute something more substantive to the blog, other than imagery. (I bet you all are saying: “Yes Lou, we wish you would too.”) ;-)
As I was preparing for work I was watching J. Manuel answer questions about Johan being removed and the bullpens performance. Judging by his answers and his body language and how he departed the interview, he’s just as exasperated as we are.
The only justice for the pain that the team and the fans are going through would be for these guys to win the whole damn thing. As much grief as I give professional athletes for getting paid obscene amounts of money to play a game, I can empathize to a small degree as to the endurance it must take to put on the uniform, go out there and bust their assess, day in and day out and not really feel confident in what your team is gonna do.
Good luck to us all.
"OVER A BILLION SERVED" ;-)

Not getting much work done, I take it.
427 posts for a 12 o’clock game? Damn, I wish my job let me surf the internet. I might just have given Lou a run for his money.

Chad Bradford
I just heard the Rays claimed him off waivers. He has good numbers this year although he no longer strikes guys out and we know he can pitch in New York. Any reason why the Mets didn’t grab him or at least block any other claims?

Bradford can't get lefties out
With Smith presumably here to stay, I don’t think there’s another spot in the pen for a guy who’s really only useful against right handed hitters.
By the way, I think Cabbage Head could use the services of one Giuseppe Franco.

One good reason
The Rays had a higher waiver priority than the Mets in this case. Teams in the same league as the player have first crack. Only if every team in the AL passed would an NL team be given a chance.

It begs the question:
How did the Mets *not* claim Brian Giles?

Duaner Sanchez and Schoeneweis cleared waivers, we should just go to another team saying, “Your crap for our crap?”

Hopefully a change of scenery could benefit the new guys coming in, and (painfully or), the guys gettin exported

I guess it’s possible that Sanchez might be of some interest to a team that’s willing to be patient and see if he can recover his form of 2004-6. He’s only 28 after all. Personally, I’d rather have that be the Mets; I don’t think he’s incapable of recovering, I just think the Mets rushed him back before he was necessarily ready for the workload he’s currently being asked to shoulder.

Sanchez
The bad news is he threw one pitch and hit a batter.
The good news is it was an 89 MPH fastball. At least his velocity was up.

Hopefully no one jumps on him for control issues now

Thoughts on Johan
I know the numbers suggest that he pitched well today. And for the most part I think he did pitch well today. For a while it seemed like classic Johan. He got a bunch of strikeouts and 13 of his first 15 outs were either K’s or fly ball outs. The one hit he allowed was a HR. But he also had a lot of deep counts and threw a lot of pitches early.
Then, all of a sudden, he starts giving up line drives and ground balls. In the last 2 plus innings he gave up 2 line drive hits, 1 ground ball hit, and got 4 of 6 outs on ground balls. This is decidedly not classic Johan, but is pretty representative of 2008 Johan.
I was sitting in the Upper Deck behind home and really couldn’t tell if he was pitching down in the zone late in the game. Can anyone that watched offer some insight?
I know it defies traditional pitching logic, but I firmly believe that one of the things that has made Johan less dominant is the number of ground balls he is inducing. Pitches down seem to get fouled off more easily and therefore raise his pitch count. Combine with the poor infield defense Johan seems to be working harder to be achieve good results.
