Woot!
Labor Day . . . in the office . . . day baseball!
Day baseball in the office has generally been a pretty terrible combination for me and the Mets but, fuck it, I gotta do something. Let’s go Mets!

I know he's not a full-timer
But Murph was hitting pretty well in the 2-hole before, if I’m not mistaken. Sheets should be a good challenge for him today.

Given what we have
I really like this lineup. Easley and Castillo are a wash in the 7th spot and I guess Schneider is the best we have now with Castro out. I wonder why Casanova wasn’t given another shot with the club? He hit decently when he was up earlier in the season.

This is going to be a tough series
The Brewers are on fire, and are probably a better team than the Mets. I’d be OK with 1 of 3, and ecstatic with 2 of 3. At least we don’t face Sabathia.
The baseball gods may be smiling on the Mets. The Phillies are playing in Washington and the Nats are playing their best ball of the season right now. The Phillies might not make up any ground on the Mets before next weekend’s showdown.
This also may be an NLDS preview. If the Mets take the division, they’re likely to face the Brewers.

Brewers
The Brewers are a very good team but, at the same time, they’ve played a lot of weak teams (including a lot of games against the Pirates this month). I want to see Sabathia pitch against some more good teams before I start annointing him the best pitching in baseball.

he didn’t field it cleanly. he fields it cleanly, it’s an out. pretty simple play for a major league pitcher. he messed it up, which makes it an error for me.

why not a hit?
First of all, it’s on CC anyway — if the lard-bucket can’t field his position it makes it harder to record outs. Second, it seems like a legit infield hit to me either way, not at all automatic that they’d get the out even if fielded cleanly.

yes. did you see the jump weeks got on santana?
did you see that schneider had to rush the throw because santana failed at his end of holding the runner on? there’s more to throwing a runner out than the catcher having a cannon. just an fyi.

Yes, there is.
But Schneider’s defense was supposed to be his strength. And we haven’t seen that at all this season. He’s not keeping runners on, he’s definitely not throwing them out, and pitches get past him way too often.
