Woot!

Labor Day . . . in the office . . . day baseball!

Day baseball in the office has generally been a pretty terrible combination for me and the Mets but, fuck it, I gotta do something. Let’s go Mets!

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

Holy Shit

A good hitter hitting second.

I know he's not a full-timer

But Murph was hitting pretty well in the 2-hole before, if I’m not mistaken. Sheets should be a good challenge for him today.

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

Given what we have

I really like this lineup. Easley and Castillo are a wash in the 7th spot and I guess Schneider is the best we have now with Castro out. I wonder why Casanova wasn’t given another shot with the club? He hit decently when he was up earlier in the season.

by Lunkwill Fook on Sep 1, 2008 1:47 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I forgot about him!

Yeah I wonder why he didn’t merit the expansion call-up.

I definitely wasn’t paying him much mind down there in N’Orleans.

Looking at the Zephyrs' stats, I wonder the same thing.

We’ve carried 3 catchers for a while already this season.

by BobbyV_Incognito on Sep 1, 2008 1:55 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is going to be a tough series

The Brewers are on fire, and are probably a better team than the Mets. I’d be OK with 1 of 3, and ecstatic with 2 of 3. At least we don’t face Sabathia.

The baseball gods may be smiling on the Mets. The Phillies are playing in Washington and the Nats are playing their best ball of the season right now. The Phillies might not make up any ground on the Mets before next weekend’s showdown.

This also may be an NLDS preview. If the Mets take the division, they’re likely to face the Brewers.

Brewers

The Brewers are a very good team but, at the same time, they’ve played a lot of weak teams (including a lot of games against the Pirates this month). I want to see Sabathia pitch against some more good teams before I start annointing him the best pitching in baseball.

wow. CC you got screwed, bro.

by gogomets on Sep 1, 2008 2:38 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

he touched the ball

he didn’t field it cleanly. he fields it cleanly, it’s an out. pretty simple play for a major league pitcher. he messed it up, which makes it an error for me.

by gogomets on Sep 1, 2008 2:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

why not a hit?

First of all, it’s on CC anyway — if the lard-bucket can’t field his position it makes it harder to record outs. Second, it seems like a legit infield hit to me either way, not at all automatic that they’d get the out even if fielded cleanly.

by anonymous on Sep 1, 2008 2:41 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

borderline

Its a play that should be made, but not a play I can say mistake if its not made. It could go either way.

which goes to show you

by gogomets on Sep 1, 2008 2:49 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, they can, but they don't have much stamina at that weight.

There’s a lot of muscle, but a lot of fat in those guys, too. Of course, I’m not about to walk up to one and call him out for being fat.

by BobbyV_Incognito on Sep 1, 2008 2:51 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not sure about the stamina point

those guys play 4 quarters and go 100% (or close to it) on every play. you gotta be in pretty damn good shape.

by gogomets on Sep 1, 2008 2:52 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

There's a lot of downtime during a football game.

Really, only about 20-25 out of the 60 minutes are plays. A good, long drive will wipe out a lineman.

by BobbyV_Incognito on Sep 1, 2008 2:54 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i know that

but how many people that aren’t professional athletes could play more than one quarter and not be completely exhausted?

and i would think a good long drive would wipe out everybody on both sides of the ball

by gogomets on Sep 1, 2008 2:56 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Probably not a lot of us.

Of course, most people wouldn’t last more than a few plays, getting hit like that.

Whichever adjective you prefer to use.

Latin, Hispanic, whatever. There are other versions in Latin America and Mexico, but most of the time, it’s the Spanish version.
