Oh My Freaking Gawd: Nationals 7, Mets 2
Four days ago the Mets held a 3.5 game lead in the NL East over the Phillies. With tonight's heinous loss in Washington, that lead has been whittled to a can't-be-any-smaller-while-still-maintaining-the-properties-of-a-lead advantage of just a half-game. They also have a theoretical half-game lead for the Wild Card, which means there may be a consolation prize awaiting them if they blow this thing again.
The Mets don't deserve all of the blame for this loss. John Lannan was very good tonight; the Mets didn't get many good swings against him. Pedro Martinez was not good, again. He wasn't awful, but the Nationals are among the worst teams in baseball in almost every offensive category, so if you can't hold them in check you're going to have a tough go of it against the better teams in the league.
And the bullpen is back to full-on meltdown mode. Duaner Sanchez shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a pitcher's mound unless he has a rake and a bag of dirt. What will tomorrow bring? Only Kreskin knows for sure. Bad things are afoot at the Circle Shea.

Be advised
The Mets have a lower percentage chance of making the playoffs than the Phils (70.6% vs. 73.9%, according to “Coolstandings” whatever that is.

In other news, I think I hate the Mets now, along with baseball, apple pie, bikinis, and democracy.

I don't know which is worse
The win probability graph climbing inexorably toward a loss, or reversing direction sharply at the end and plunging toward a loss.

Sunday
That big spike in the graph from sunday’s 9th inning was horrendous to see.

Might be down but not out
The Mets might be down but not out I think that they will make the playoffs that mess that the brewers call a team won’t make the playoffs. The Brewers have the best pitcher in baseball and still couldn’t get it done. Now they lost their manager……….please that ship has already sunk they don’t have an easy schedule and they underachieved big time. I say the Mets have overachieved they were wrote off earlier in the season and went on several winning streaks to stay in the race. The biggest question mark I have is who is going to get the ball in the 9th in a tight game that is something that they need to figure out fast. Closers are vital for a good playoff run. They have the will to do it they just have to find it. They have some long winning streaks this season and if they go on one in october they could shock the baseball world.
