don’t know anything about the guy.

besides, i’m worn out from blogging last night on Rocky Top Talk. University of Tennessee versus UCLA last night in college football. (I’m from Knoxville, TN so I was pretty bummed at the outcome). There were a total of over 1100 posts last night (I’m sure you can imagine where a great deal of them came from).

good luck tonight.

Let's go Mets!

Show the kid some support in his first outing, and win this series tonight.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

So far so good.

Nice to see the bats get 5 early for the kid – and not in the 1st inning!

Thinking positive

Looking forward to seeing this kid slinging tonight and hoping he does alright against the 8,000 righties in the Brewers’ line-up. Let’s Go Mets!

Hello, all

and goodbye. I’m at school, and no one will have wireless until Saturday. So good luck and be thankful that you’re able to watch the game. Go Niese!!!

Dag, man

tough time of the year to lose the games. It could be worse, though. This could have happened in October.

How is this dude's name pronounced?

I always thought it was `neese`, but some unspeakably horrible headline the other day assumed a `nice` pronunciation.

I think Gary/Keith/Ron have been calling him "neese"

So unless I hear otherwise on the broadcast tonight, that’s what I’m sticking with.

by Greenpoint Ian on Sep 2, 2008 8:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I have to object a little

in the sense that Phil Hughes was very much ballyhooed…. Hughes was counted on to be a savior for the Yankees. Niese is just being thrown out there as an alternative to the crap that weve been running out there every fifth day… Actually I like the moxie of Niese thus far (and I know this is a minute sample size)

Tough game to throw him into, tho

I mean, a righty-dominated, high-scoring line-up for his first start. I’ll be happy if he can settle down and give up only three runs through five.

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

by Catsmeat Potter-Pirbright on Sep 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know that

Im just commenting on the comparison… I was saying that Hughes was supposedly light years ahead of where Niese is. Niese was a “noboby” in the prospects circle. Hughes was a preannial Cy Young candidate. Niese was thought of as orgainizational filler. Alot has changed in the last 18 months. But your point about him looking overmatched is totally on point

Haven’t been around in a while, just wanted to say that Beltran is proving how unclutch he is, they already had a one run lead, alright later guys.

by Sokojoe on Sep 2, 2008 8:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Just watching Niese

Hes got a nice fastball. Good velocity for a lefty. He seems to hang back on his pitches and tends to leave them up. When he throws his change up he’s definately telegraphing it. You can tell by his arm speed. When hes throwing the change up its like hes trying to throw a ten pound grenade. His curve has some nasty bite. Wish he would work that pitch in some more. In my opinion I think it has the makings of a plus pitch.

He works both sides of the plate to both lefties and righties. If I were a to project where he might end up Id have to say that he appears (to my untrained eye) to be a possible number three pitcher with some above average years. I think he’s definately someone who will be part of our long term future. What do you guys think about the kid so far?

by tbach81 on Sep 2, 2008 9:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

From the side, he kinda looks like Jimmy Caan.

And he’s gotten out of a lot of trouble through three innings. That’s not a terrible thing.

by Catsmeat Potter-Pirbright on Sep 2, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He should get into the 6th

Gonna need at least one super-quick inning, but it’s possible. And, if the bats add a couple here and there, maybe Dub can get a chance to pitch and give the pen some rest.

I see a lot of positives

He is not afraid to challenge hitters with his fastball. He threw some nice looking curves and his change has been effective. If he keeps getting fly balls he will probably be effective in Shea/Citi.

How about this

The Mets are going to have three 100-RBI guys this year. At the break I didn’t think Delgado was gonna do it, and that Beltran only had an OK chance. This is good stuff I say!
