I'll say this much:
Worst. Embiggening. Ever. That loss was atrocious.

Amen, brother.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

hey, check this out
the run expectancy matrix says a man on third and no outs is worth approximately 1.5 runs! oh and hey, bases loaded with 1 out is 1.6 runs! oh and look, first and third with no outs is 1.8!!!

I hate to belabor it, but:
This is what the loss feels like to me right now:

Take it for what you will.

Inex-fucking-cuseable loss
The first time in years I’ve left early. Lee’s homer sent everyone sprinting for the exits. Omar’s greatest fault is being completely incapable of assembling a reliable bullpen and a halfway decent bench. To their credit, the relievers took a night off from their usual arson job, doing just well enough to make the loss hurt even more. Put a fork in ‘em, they’re finished.

More stats?...This one from the Elias Sports Bereau courtesy of...The OCHO
METS SQUANDER ANOTHER LARGE LEAD AT SHEA
The Mets held a 5-1 lead over the Cubs on Wednesday night, but lost in extra innings, 9-6. It’s the sixth time this season that the Mets lost a home game in which they led by at least four runs. That ties the most such losses for any National League team since 1900; the 1924 Phillies and 1976 Cubs also had six home defeats of that type. The last N.L. team to lose more than six home games in which it led by four-or-more runs was Chicago in 1894.
Just doing my part to make everyone feel worse.

Wow
Thanks a ton Lou. I needed just one more thing to push me over the edge.

Mr. L.A. L.A.
I hardly ever bring anything “statworthy” to the conversation, so I thought I would do my best copy and paste and see how it went.
Man, I’m hoping the METS will catch a break.

It was a good stat. As I said, just one more think to push me over the edge in LA.

I can't take it anymore
I’ll be very happy when I don’t have to endure another Oliver Perez start. I can’t wait to see how Scott Boras explains to a team that the guy who leads the league in walks allowed is worth $10 a year.
by Reg Dunlop on Sep 25, 2008 9:03 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
$10 million a year? HA! Boras will ask for twice that.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Carlos Voltron
Fucking brilliant! That story has me laughing out loud here, seriously.

Whoever wrote it has a good read on this season so far:
Meanwhile, defending a comfortable 600-0 lead in the top of ninth, the Mets decided to rest up Carlos Voltron by moving him to the outfield and replacing him with reliever Aaron Heilman, who lost the lead and eventually the game after giving up 618 runs to close the inning.
Yep. That about sums it up.

Didn't care too much for this article
A lot of METS fans have been in this from game one of this year and have endured a lot. The fans pay for the tickets. I understand that the fans SHOULD maintain some decorum and some type of etiquette but…The fans can do what they want (to an extent) for paying for the ticket(s).
When the team wins the fans will be there. This isn’t the Tampa Bay Rays who SHOULD have had a full stadium every night just for being in first. Give the METS fans a break…The players sure aren’t.
Would you want to come to a game when you know that there’s over a 50% chance your team is gonna blow the game?

I was saying Boo-urns.
Yes. I’d still go to games if the Mets were terrible. Always have. Just love being at the park and cheering the team on. For the record, I won’t boo my guys cos I just don’t.
I understand completely what Baumbach is saying and I mostly agree. The team needs the fans completely behind them for the next four games. However, the paying customers are well within their rights to boo a shoddy performance if they see one. I, for one, hate when people boo a player (I don’t want to use any names here, so let’s say Luis C. No, too obvious. Let’s say L. Castillo.) after a routine ground-out in the second inning just because they hate the guy, not necessarily because he did something egregious in the course of making that out.
In summary, please refrain from booing for booings sake.

I understand
Fans aren’t known for being objective. Fan being short for fanatic. So I expect the worst but hope for the best. I understand the guys article, it just comes across as too “holier than thou” in my opinion.
by LOUtheMETandNATSfan on Sep 25, 2008 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I booed from my computer and in front of ESPN
While I do agree, booing for booing sake is not appropriate. Booing for not getting a guy in from third with no outs in the bottom of the 9th is just piss poor.
These guys get paid a lot of money. Our money (tix, Gear, TV Rev, etc…). While I know undying support is probably the right thing, they are entertainment at its purest and when they are not entertaining to watch and bring us back they need deserve to hear it.
That said, I am still wearing my David Wright Jersey and ready for game 4 against the Cubs tonight. Praying they give me reason to believe.
Given 4 teams in the AL are in and 3 teams are vying for 2 spots in the NL East and Wildcard and two teams are still vying for the NL West. Being one of those teams still with life is a place I want to be right now. No objective, b/c I wish it was easier for the Mets, but still a dedicated fan even if I do boo. It is part of me showing I care about how they play. Maybe I need to reconsider that, but too many years at Shea and the Meadowlands leads me to display some of my fanhood that way.

I meant booing for not getting the guy in from 3rd seems reasonable to me.
Sorry about the rambling BS.

i don't boo as a rule
but i cannot say these guys don’t deserve it. I just try to have as many pillows and soft things around my living room so when my hand goes to the nearest thing to throw, the damage is controllable. this squad of mets is like the republican party: they keep fucking us and we keep letting them.

the problem with that plan
is that if I chuck a pillow across the living room, it’s liable to knock over something fragile like a bobblehead doll or a Wii or a bottle of booze
by JoshNY on Sep 25, 2008 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
right and then I get pissed ...
that I knocked over the Wii, so I chuck that and the ugly cycle begins.
I prefer an occasionally “Boo”, “You Suck” “I could have hit that you idiot”, Crying “Why God do you keep doing this to us?” etc… with progressively stiffer beverages.

as much as I hate concession prices
I’d pay for a Beam and Coke at a ball game. But hell, I’ll do you one better. Strap one of these sum bitches on your back (see pic) underneath your jacket for those early spring and late fall games. Fill it up w/ice coke, and your favorite whiskey / bourbon and your ass won’t give two shits who wins!

…Working “indirectly” for DHS I know I shouldn’t expect anything other than “RED” state opinions where I work…So I thank you and the majority of the blog for opening up and setting things straight in regards to this horrific administration. Yep, you’re right. “We keep letting them.”

Department of Homeland Security
In 2015 after your child has had their RFID chip implanted in the back of their hand or forearm he / she won’t need to show I.D. at the airport and we can speed up the process of cavity searches for false positives resulting from a terrorism check list that is growing much larger than the national debt.

I am sure. I have only lived in blue states or blue Metro areas. NJ, IL, and CA. Being the internet, no reason to pry too much. I would rather keep this blog about the Mets, Some football, hockey, Credit crisis and politics.
Not much to explore in those areas.

Agreed
Like I (think I) said, I don’t do it and I don’t begrudge people doing it at the right times, but the sort of “let’s boo anything Player X does because he’s a suck-ass with a terrible long-term contract” is a bit much for me.
And I agree with Lou that columns like Baumbach’s annoy me a little bit, because it comes off as preachy and myopic.
