Around SBN: Hugh Douglas Admits To Stealing From Jaguars

Hands down, far and away, by all measures, without a doubt

The worst loss of the season.

Seventh inning: Man on third, no outs.
Eighth inning: Man on third, no outs.
Ninth inning: Man on third, no outs.

One run to show for it, and the Mets can't get one more across.

Phillies lose.  Brewers win.  Mets lose.

Worst loss I've seen all year.

Not to reciprocate too much here but:

Amen, brother. Amen. Atrocious and such.

'Catsmeat!' he cried. 'I see it all. It was that chump, Catsmeat.'

If you think it hurt watching on TV,

it was a thousand times more painful in person. Jesus, how many times can we fail to drive in one fucking runner from second and/or third in the late innings?

Bobby?

Yeah. I’ve been sitting up here trying to conceive just how terrible that was. Fucking atrocious, that was.

ya

This is like the 5th game I’ve been able to watch all season thanks to location/being poor/stubborn about getting the packages, and it hurts when it’s like this. Just unbelievable…

Apparently Ayala is 2-10 on the season now. That’s bad.

Honestly, the thing that pissed me off most was when Reyes decided not to steal 2nd when it was 1st and 3rd 0 outs. He’s just gotta pull the trigger. I had a bad feeling a DP was coming. Worst part is, if it was a regular old DP, the run would’ve scored. Move on, and win tomorrow.

a regular DP isn't the 2008 Mets' modus operandi though

ripping a ball that would have been a double down the line if Lee hadn’t been holding Reyes on is much more their style. this team has been seriously snakebit this year.

Hmmm...

July 22nd, Phils win 8-6 @ Shea scoring 6 runs in the top of the ninth, that still stings me a bit more. 1 because it was the Phils, 2 because of a 6 run 9th when we were up 5-2.

The fact that last night we had a man on 3rd in three consecutive innings with no outs and failed to score does suck BIG DONKEY BALLS but…damn, that loss to Philly still hangs with me.

Saved round...

One thing I did love last night was Jose Reyes totally mind fucking Carlos “Hot Head” Zambrano walking down the 3rd base line. How the hell is Zambrano gonna say, I don’t want to see that again? F-off and die Mr. Temper!!

Introducing Buddy Alderson, Sandy's dog, and the newest member of Puppy Avenue!

Embiggen here.
Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
