Johan Santana To Start On Three Days Rest
"I'm all about winning and we're trying to win every game," Santana said Friday. "And if that's the case and they want me to do it, I don't have a problem with that."

Great.
I guess we have to hope for lots of two- or three-pitch at-bats.

Doesn't matter.
Pick a random number from the roster and send him out to pitch.
I hope this sorry excuse for a team gets booed relentlessly for their last two days at Shea.

argh
It’s all been said already, but this makes no sense. The weird thing is that the reason it makes no sense is even contained in Johan’s pull-quote — we almost certainly need to win both remaining games to make the playoffs. So why not start him tomorrow instead of today?
It kind of amazes me that baseball men continue to think starting on three days’ rest is a good strategy. (Though in this case it’s more of a desperate roll of the dice, I guess.) The results, in general, are not encouraging.

Looking ahead
Stupid, I know, but if the Mets somehow make the postseason, pitching Santana today would allow him to pitch games 2 and 5 of the LDS on normal rest. If Santana pitches Sunday instead of Saturday, he would have to start one of those LDS games — against a better team than the Marlins — on short rest.

If this works for Johan,
Maybe Jerry should pitch Ollie on short-rest tomorrow. If the season and a free-agent contact are on the line, maybe the Human Slot Machine will come up triple-Liberty Bells for the Mets.

I think that might be the plan
There’s not really anyone else TO start.

Bwaaah?
You’ve not heard of a little pitcher named Brandon Knight?

I'm sure he'll find his way into the game tomorrow
Unless he finds his way into today’s game.

The season may be on the line, but
the contract should be off the table.
