Santana looks strong

But I seem to recall that Beltran hates batting second, and I’m concerned that he be happy — as long as Murphy and not the second baseman du jour is the alternative 2-hole hitter.

because he’s got great skills as a #2 hitter and also because he’s GOOD at it – his career OPS in the #2 spot is .924, better than anywhere else in the lineup except 7th/8th (which I assume must’ve been way early in his career with KC and is only 141 combined plate appearances)

(with the caveat that lineups don’t really matter much) Beltran’s skills seem like a natural fit for the #2 spot — great on-base ability, real homer power but also constant doubles threat, amazing baserunning (best SB ever!). All that to me adds up to a natural fit in the 2-hole. But, because lineups don’t matter much, I still think it’s more important to keep the dude comfortable and happy with his role.

With all the statistical studies (or “the” study) that argue that lineup doesn’t matter, then why don’t they advocate having your four worst hitters hit 1-4? Your best hitters still need to hit more often right? A team like this that often lacks a certain chemistry on offense, I would not take any option off the table.
If Beltran could help the team more in the 2 hole, than I don’t see the argument that he shouldn’t bc he’s not “happy” there.

yeah, the most important thing is the number of ABs
Hitters higher in the lineup sometimes get one more AB late in a game, so they end up getting a couple dozen more ABs over a full season. That’s about the sum total of the lineup’s effect.
my default assumption is that Belty would
embiggen the team more in the 2 hole with the particular skill he has.

i can understand blacking out the fox games
but it pisses me off when there’s an early saturday game that is blacked out cause it might overlap with the fox game for like 20 minutes. that’s annoying.

fox is supposed to be the only channel with baseball on saturday afternoon, so they always end up blacking out the 1pm sat. games even though fox doesn’t broadcast them
if faux is not showing the game in the entire western market, the mlb needs to take it back
we should not be asked to pay twice for the same product.

Church needs this off-season to get right
The guy showed some great skills before going on the DL and other than that great slide the other night, he has been horrible. Leaving way too many men on base.

is that he needs to fight for a job next spring with everyone else. a couple months of promising play ain’t enough to keep omar from looking for possible better outfielders.

He should pitch the 9th. If only ahead by 2 he has to. He’s getting stronger. Why does everybody assume because he’s pitching on 3 days rest he runs a real risk of hurting his arm. Agreed, but...
Johan is an athlete vs so many other pitchers that put on weight and their mechanics change as the work increase , etc… I am not saying you aren’t correct, but I dont think 3 weeks of high pitch count and 1 short rest start constitutes over work.
Mentally, I am sure the guy is glad to finish given how many times he has been screwed this year by the bullpen.

I'm more worried by the pitch counts than the short rest
This last month or so, Jerry has started to look a little too Dusty-Baker-like for my liking.
I suppose that is partially a function of this bullpen

When they induct Santana into the Hall of Fame,
this game is going to be a big part of the highlight reel, and an argument for him wearing a Mets logo on his cap. Am I the only one thinking of Schilling’s “bloody sock” game, Leiter against the Reds, and Bobby Jones’s playoff one-hitter? This has to be one of the greatest pitching performances in Mets history.

it is kinda shocking that someone has not been able to provide sports fans with more access. Hell ESPN has been around forever, cant they think of some solution.
Sell the rights to fox, but if they choose not to show the game, someone could purchase secondary rights.

but the fine print warns you about all this blackout shit…but i agree that they should really try to be more accommodating to the fans…i don’t know why they make it harder for us to enjoy the game.
