LET'S GO METS! YA GOTTA BELIEVE!! WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!
What else can I say? I hope we win. I hope the players take the field with unbridled enthusiasm. Have fun guys, but remain focused. Good luck to to the players and the fans at Shea today. I won’t be able to view the game in its entirety. I’m nervous for these guys and the fans.
I hope we win and that Milwaukee loses.
All the best!

I finally watched my Shea Goodbye DVD that I won as swag a few months ago.

Hey Eric
Is there someway to view yesterday’s game? Does the METS organization or MLB sell DVD’s of previous games? I’d love to view it.

No swag here but...
I feel more a part of the METS family than I ever have.
The blog has made me more of fan than I’ve ever been. I’m from Knoxville, TN where Volunteer football is king but, this means as much to me as any Volunteer game. Damn man, I hope we win!!

Vols fan?
Tough loss yesterday. I got my master’s at UGA, so I bleed red and black. We’ll get you guys in 2 weeks!
Son!
What the heck happened in Athens last night? I was pulling for Georgia. Alabama, I can’t stand and you obviously know why.
What’s wrong w/Tennessee football? Two things:
- Offensive Coordinator
- Jonathan Crompton (QB)
Anytime they wanna put in Nick Stephens from Flower Mound, TX is alright with me.

Last night was ugly
If only the game had been 5 quarters, then Georgia would have won. I’m going down to Athens for the Vandy game in a few weeks – so pumped!
Vandy!
Where the hell did they come from?

Still early
The Georgia-LSU game later this year will be huge though. SEC championship preview there.
I'm lookin forward to Bama-LSU
Do you know how much hate is going to be in that game? LOL! Gonna be a good one. Did you hear about the huge contract that ESPN got for televising SEC games?

No, that's news to me.
I love how tough the SEC is, but it’s basically impossible to go undefeated there. I wish there were more patsies for the Dawgs to beat up on.
Just more reason for a playoff system.
I advocated for an eight team playoff using the Bowl games (ROSE, SUGAR, FIESTA & ORANGE) as the initial playoff games. The following weekend would be the semi-final games and the Championship game would be played on the weekend before the super bowl.
No one’s listening to me though.

The Mets won a nail-biter at home, but the Brewers/Reds game was delayed by SNOW. I drove from Shea to Annapolis, MD and still got to see the Reds game.

Ollie and the sense of occasion
I think Perez is the single Met that I’d be most likely to buy a “clutch” argument about. The guy just seems to have trouble concentrating during mid-season games sometimes, where he’ll pitch a horrible inning because he’s not focussing on getting every batter out. Doesn’t seem to happen on the big stage with the crowd cheering him on.
Over/under on the inning where Olsen starts sweating like crazy
I’m setting it at the 5th
Woot, Carlos.
Gary pointed out that four Mets (Delgado, Reyes, Wright, Beltran) have all played at least 159 games this season.
D WRIGHT!

slow hit ball.
Martinez would have at least gloved it IMO. What he could do with it was in question.
Now the typical trainer's overreaction
“Are you sure you don’t want to come out? Because it’s not a problem, we’ve got plenty of relievers.”
Please be OK
Ollie.

I don't understand
Instead of leaving in a guy who’s pitching great, you overuse your bullpen 2 days before the playoffs start?
playoffs don't start until wednesday
so if relievers don’t pitch today, they’ll have had three days off…guess lou want s to avoid that
or maybe he just wants to drive mets fans crazy…in that case, it’s working
I don't see any other motivation he would have
I mean, it’s not like Guzman is gonna pitch much in the playoffs (if at all).
Imagine if Castro were as veterany as Schneider
He’d be unstoppable since he’s already a better fielder and hitter.
Ollie stealin' a base?
haha.

Hey, look. If you can’t score two runs against the Marlins you don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Let’s get it done.

latest profundity from Hagin
“Cancel — trying to become a baserunner.”
If the season ends today, at least it means I don’t have to listen to this jackass anymore.
Oh no....
Do you have those assholes from Florida?
The worst broadcast team ever.

are they going to get rid
of that moron after the year. I can’t stand him
Save America. Impeach Bush
I sure as shit hope so
The Mets’ radio contract with WFAN is up this year, and Hagin was on a one-year deal. If they re-hire him I may finally spring for cable next year.
you don't have cable

Save America. Impeach Bush
get rid of that question mark, stat
No fucking question he’s the Mets’ MVP. The league’s is still Pujols — unless you factor in Beltran’s amazing clutch performance …
oh boy, it's Stokes -- just who I want with the season on the line
The next three (plus?) innings of bullpen work are going to be… interesting.
That.
Is a break. Oh man.

Another obvious 1-1 strike on the inside corner that is called a ball for 2-1.
And of course, it is followed by a smash.
Why the hell won’t Gerry Davis call that pitch a strike?
Oh well, we got a break.
The marlins dont run.
It is weird, but they just do not run. Maybin has the speed though

Baker could be a strikeout risk
That’d be a legitimate reason to be wary of sending Maybin.

No.
I repeat, No, there is not a Molina to been found on the Marlins roster.

Santana should win the Cy Young
Webb should finish second, with Lincecum third. Then we can talk about CC.
I think Santana should get it too

Save America. Impeach Bush
they're only "major league players" by a very loose definition
I mean, they happen to play in the major leagues right now, but…

last year was worse because we had Maine and Wagner and still lost. This is a fairly close second though.

he made great moves that’s not the point. He was given loads of money to make a great team. This he nas not done. He should be fired.
Save America. Impeach Bush
For those Omar fans I have 4 names for you
Colon, Sizemore, Lee, Phillips.
Save America. Impeach Bush
be fair
he thought the team wasn’t going exist in a year. How do you plan for the future in that environment.
So he happened to trade
3 future studs. Do you want to see anybody in management back next year. It’s an insult to the fans to give him a 4 year contract and announce it unofficially before the end of the year. Wilpon owes the fans an apology. NObody should step foot in Citifield next year if Omar is around until 2012.
Save America. Impeach Bush
I think 4 years is too long.
Is Omar and Jerry perfect no. But I fear for who they could bring in here. We could get McIvaine part deux. I want a new bullpen next year though and a legit second baseman.
Seriously
I’m kind of ambivalent towards the Omar era at Shea, but taking a picture of a guy on his worst day and saying, “Hey, this is Omar” is pretty unfair.
It is unfair, but...
When there are a bunch of really bad days surrounded by 89 wins, how am I suppose to feel?

Good lord
I was strongly against the extension in the Omar21 thread, but I’m also strongly against all you’ve been saying. The man was not deserving of the big extension, but he has made a strong positive impact on the clubhouse. Blaming this season on him is not the key here. IF Billy Wagner did not get hurt, we likely would’ve beaten Philly for the division. He has not done an excellent job, but if not the culprit.
And, those four names are so terribly out of context.
He put together a team of losing choke artists
if they can come back here in the 9th I will change my mind.
Save America. Impeach Bush
so your opinion of Omar rests on 3 AB?
I don’t think most of us are Omar’s unconditional defenders, but this seems a little reductive. Why not evaluate his whole body of work rather than getting pissed off that the team is coming up just short again?

Nice to chat and I do appreciate most of the thoughtful comments.
Thanks
I’d like to thank the 2008 New York Mets for their efforts this season. It didn’t end the way we wanted but neither will the seasons of 29 other teams.
I'll second this
as long as I’m allowed to exempt the bullpen from my thanks.
That's a great way of putting it
Kudos to Johan, Delgado, Beltran, Wright, Reyes, and everyone else who did well. Hopefully, Omar will finally come to his senses and get bullpen help. Sadly, history repeats itself in the worst way sometimes.
it was really fun to watch the mets
after they turned it around post-randolph…which just makes the end to the season sting that much more
The Dodgers are the only team I want to succeed in the NL
After all, they’re primarily responsible for the Mets’ existence. In the AL, I’m just satisfied that the Skanks won’t be participating.
They certainly do
But I can’t root for them. The Mets mainly broke my heart, but the Brewers played a part.
nice chatting with you guys
Blastings! Thrilledge probably won’t be around next year. (I will, though.)
I was going to say
With Church not getting it done and with Schneider out of the lineup that Omar is a complete epic fail, but that might’ve been too much right now?
Milledge
We shouldn’t talk about it right now, but that trade is setting up to be epic fail. Milledge was awesome the last 2 months of the season. 900 OPS with tons of steals awesome.
Well, Doc
I know you’ve always loved Milledge, and I liked him as well. But I really can’t see him turning into a .300/30/100 guy.

Jerry post-game interviews
I’ll give this to Manuel, he sounds fucking depressed right now. Somebody hide the knives and pills before he gets home.
he's doing better than Willie did last year
I was worried Willie was going to drive off the GW on his way home.
The thing is
I don’t really feel bad for him, because I’m going through the exact same thing. I know it’s his team and all, and he tried so hard. But I don’t think he could feel that much worse than me.
Postgame Ceremony
It was annoying that it took them almost a half hour after the game ended to get the ceremony started, but they did a great job of getting former Mets back in town. Almost the whole ‘86 team was there it seems like – Dykstra, Backman, Teufel, HoJo, Keith, Kid, Straw, Doc, Ronnie, El Sid, Bobby O, Orosco – but I’m not sure why Mookie wasn’t there. Not a whole lot of guys from more recent years – Piazza, Leiter, Franco, Zeile, Ventura, Alfonzo, I think was it.
I have to admit, it got a little misty when Seaver and Piazza went out for a ceremonial last pitch.
Not sure if any of the other old players did the same in the RF corner, but in LF where I was, Ronnie seemed to be the guy who didn’t want to leave the field when the ceremony was over.
Sigh.
Will the last person out of Shea please turn out the lights?
