Thanks

I'll have plenty to say about this game, series and season in the coming days, but right now I just want to thank every member of this community for their contributions this season. Whether you've been here since we opened the doors in February of 2005 or you just joined Amazin' Avenue this month, you're all the reasons this is the best Mets community on the internets. I wouldn't trade you guys for anything, and I look forward to all of your comments, FanPosts and FanShots this offseason and beyond.

Thanks!

Eric, Great job with the blog.

It was fun to be a part of it even the short amount of time I participated.

I will be back next year and probably check in during the offseason.

still the best mets game chat on the interwebs by far

even when the team tried to en-small us, we chatted so clutch.
hope some of you guys will pay my humble corner of the internet a visit over the winter.
so long, and no thanks for all the fish.

back atcha

Thanks, Eric, for being a level-headed voice of reason both in your reflections and opinions on baseball, and in your moderation of the discussions here. It’s thanks to you that this site is such a great place, so — thanks, to you.

by anonymous on Sep 28, 2008 8:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Thanks everyone!

I stumbled on this site around the time Willie was fired to see what others were thinking. I’ve consistently been impressed by the level of discourse, humor, and analysis that all the contributors bring to the site. I know we don’t always see eye to eye, but the fact that most people here are constructive in their opinions makes this the best site for Mets discussion around.

Thank you Eric for all the work you put in here and at Mets Geek.
Thank you to all the posters who force me to constantly look at things from different perspectives.
I’m sure in a few days, when we recover emotionally, we will all have a unique take on this past season and the upcoming off-season.

Sorry for rambling. Let’s Go Mets!!!

This was a fun year

On the site, at least. Went to my first AA-Day at Shea with my wife and brother. (Next year the Mets have a weekend series against the Nationals, so we’ll hafta make some kind of meet-up then!) I won a monthly swag contest!

Eric, this is a great site to follow and enjoy the New York Mets. Don’t you go changin’!

Thanks again

To Eric and everyone. This blog is great. I hope I was able to contribute to it. And thanks to the Mets for those beautiful closing ceremonies. It was almost worth the pain of the game to see that final view of Piazza and Seaver walking off the field as the sun set, stopping at the outfield wall, waving to the crowd one last time and then the door closes on the season and at Shea. Terrific ending to a great closing farewell to Shea. It was bittersweet but hey being a Mets fan always is.
As Howie Rose said next year we petition the league to end the season after 145 games. Until then LETS GO METS!!!

Thanks...And "farewell" copied from an earlier post.

Since some of us are hailing farewell, I’d like to go ahead and get mine on the record.

First and foremost I would like to thank Eric Simon:
1. For not banning me in the early days.
2. For managing the blog, making it informative and entertaining at the same time. (That’s hard to do w/almost anything these days).

AWARDS:

    * Most Accommodating Blogger goes to: Bobby V Incognito – Thanks for your friendliness on the blog BVI. Intonation is always hard to figure in anything written in an electronic format such as: Emails / Blogs. So your patience and friendliness are much appreciated.

    * Funniest Blogger goes to: ITSMETSFORME. Hands down, some of the funniest comments this side of the Mississippi. I’m still laughing…

    * Most Difficult To Get Along With Blogger: "On no…We have a tie!" Catsmeat Potter-Pirbright and Anonymous. Upon my third or fourth day blogging they were on my a$$ like stink on Limberger. However, this was a good thing, because they forced me to understand that, this isn’t your typical blog and we’re trying to maintain a blog that can be "unlike" other blogs in their crassness and vulgarity. Indirectly they’ve also made me pay more attention to ‘stats’, something I’ve never done before. Sure, I’ve been a METS fan since ’97, but I had never bothered to take a look underneath the surface for what makes a baseball team tick. Hell, I always thought it was just good enough to yell. Thanks kids!

Finally, I would like to give a shout out to some bloggers that didn’t receive awards however, were influential in my growth as an Amazin Avenue blogger: "Pingel, Josh NY (man, you’re tough), KenDynamo, RodGasperFanClub, & LosAngelesMets. I know that I’ve left some people out, for that, I sincerely apologize. "Who Loves Ya Baby?!"

LET’S GO METS! YA GOTTA’ BELIEVE!! WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!

Eric, this is easily the best Mets site on the internets. Right now I’m hurting where the band-aids don’t go, but I’m glad that I stopped lurking and started posting this year. It’s made for one hell of a season.

I actually was hoping they would retire 17 yesterday. That would have been a nice touch, but no such luck.

We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

by kingcritical on Sep 29, 2008 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'll be shocked if we don't

the way the ceremonies went yesterday, it seems that the organization is ready to put Piazza on the same pedestal as Seaver, and while a little bit of me doesn’t like it in that Seaver is “ours” while Piazza belongs to the Dodgers as well as to us, he certainly deserves that respect based on the caliber of his play – he’s got the highest career OPS+ of any catcher ever (unless one of the players above him was a catcher and I’m not aware of it), and by a pretty significant margin over Hall of Famers like Fisk and Bench and Berra.

Thanks folks!

I really appreciate reading your discussions, it makes the game more alive than just reading the regular game reports. The internet is the only way for me to follow baseball, and time difference makes it even more difficult. Despite the sour end of season it’s been fun, with the SWAG contest and all. And I won my Yahoo fantasy league, too!

Thanks Eric

Great job this season. Personally, I thought the Mets fought hard this season and if you told me all the injuries, issues, etc this team would be faced with in 2008 and we’d still be fighting on the last day of the season I would’ve taken it. While it’s disappointing to go down, I think these guys played with spirit and intensity, but a bullpen as bad as ours was too much to overcome.

While I think I only did a few of them, I’m looking forward to seeing you post the prediction numbers from spring training. I bet a lot of people are on the money with Wright, Reyes, Santana, and Beltran. Those guys certainly did their part. Of course, seeing how great they were (and Delgado), only reminds you of the fact that in baseball, you need all 25 guys, not just your stars.

I’m looking forward to the off-season. I think we are now players for K-Rod, and I’d like to get a mid-range starter such as Derek Lowe, not to mention some starter insurance. We’ll need something in LF, and let’s all hope Murphy proves he can play 2B. That be a huge plus to our lineup. And after K-Rod, maybe we should consider reworking the bullpen a little. Is Chad Bradford available?

by whynot on Sep 29, 2008 11:07 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ugh, not Derek Lowe

nothing against him in particular, but… no more signing guys in their mid-late 30s to a multi-year deal when we know they’ll start to break down halfway through it. while it’s impressive how consistently healthy Lowe has been over the last seven years (making between 32 and 35 starts each year), unless you can get him for one year, it just doesn’t make sense.

does anyone know where there’s a list of impending free agents?

by JoshNY on Sep 29, 2008 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

DLowe

I’m not handing him $14 million for 4-5 years. But 2-3 years at 8-11 would be reasonable. He’s proven durable and effective and since there are a lot of FA pitchers out there he might be reasonably priced. Between AJ, CC, Ollie, and Sheets there are going to be a lot of big dollars thrown around for starting pitching. Getting in on those guys is risky as well.

We need mid-range starters to go along with our superstar, our budding superstar (make it so Mike), and a solid pitcher in Maine. You know the Mets want Niese in there for ‘09. That leaves us searching for an innings eating 3-4 starter and some insurance. Ryan Dempster is available, but if we go for K-Rod we’re not spending what he’ll want.

Wow, it’s early for this much talk…. Here’s the list. I’m sure we’ll be hearing plenty about these guys:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/53053-a-look-at-mlbs-upcoming-free-agent-pitchers

by whynot on Sep 29, 2008 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see Looper! And Izzy! A perfect 7th-8th inning tandem!

But seriously, I like that the Mets might have a decent 1-2 punch of Santana-Pelfrey. Santana should have won 20 games this year, and I’d bet Pelf can roll off a couple 15-win seasons before he becomes a free-agent. I only hope Maine can be count on for 10-14 wins. If Maine is solid then maybe the Mets have a very decenty top three next year. I’m hoping.

But oh lord please don’t get rid of Dub or Jose!

you consistently drop the science and keep things funny and entertaining. i’m serious when i say that no one sets a better tone on ANY blog.

and so another season ends with another kick in the nuts. it is encouraging to know that my misery is slightly blunted by the fact that it will be an exciting off season for the mets. i’m already looking forward to the future discussion here on AA.

Well I'm a bit late on all this . . .

because I ended up spending the last 30 hours in the hospital with an irregular heartbeat. I missed the game, the aftermath, etc. I missed the epic game chat. Dang. I’m too young for this shit.

Anyway, echoing everyone above, thank you, Eric. Wins or no wins, this blog is always an enjoyable place to share the high points and miseries of being a Mets fan. Damned if I gotta start watching other teams play baseball now . . . sonofabitch. But I guess there’ll be next year.

I blame Omar.

If he signed David Eckstein last year the Mets would have had enough Grit and Heart to win the NL EAst. Instead the Mets missed the playoffs and my brother’s heart got all busted.

My dad has this problem and you will want to stay away from alcohol and caffeine! His might’ve been caused by sleep apnea. So now he takes pills and wears a darth vader breathing mask when he sleeps, which isn’t as cool as it sounds. But otherwise, he leads a normal life. Take care of yourself.
