Wagner out for '08, most of '09 - ESPN.com
Billy Wagner will undergo season-ending elbow surgery to repair the MCL in his left arm. He is expected to miss most of 2009 as well, which will take him right about to the end of his current contract with the Mets.
Look for the Mets to be big players in the Francisco Rodriguez sweepstakes, should he elect to leave Los Angeles.

Oh well I just don't know
This will ensure that Wags does not stink up the joint in late September or October (if the Mets get to October…) but it also means that someone needs to become the unhittable closer for Jerry. I’m not sure who in that bullpen is the man for the job.

Cast of Thousands
I imagine it’ll be a lot of LOOGY/ROOGY mash-up through the end of the month. The following month? I guess we’ll find out if we get there . . .

ugh
we only need someone to be the unhittable closer because Jerry is intent on using someone in the traditional closer role

you mean you lack confidence in luis ayala?
that implied sarcasm but you know right after i typed that i looked up ayala’s b-r page and he isnt that bad. but either way, manuel will definitely f it up.

ayala's been decent so far
2 dribblers (and a idiotic bold play by the schneid) led to a sac fly. but he did strike out j-roll to end the game.

"You go to the mound with the bullpen you have,
not the bullpen you wish you had.“— Donald "Sparky” Rumsfeld.
If Manuel can stitch a pennant together out of the remnants in this bullpen, he ought to be MOY, and rewarded with a generous 3-year contract. Really, in that event, who would have done a better job?

Götterdämmerung it.
Without the Wagnerian overture at the end the Mets’ bullpen doesn’t just need a new movement, it needs a whole new symphony. I hope Omar becomes a better bullpen composer this offseason.

my question is...
how did you type the umlaut symbol?

wäs thåt á sêrìøüs qûëstîón?
Or just an attempt to start a chain of heavy-metal umlaut jokes?
Option-U does the trick for me just fine on a Mac. On Windows, I assume you produce an umlaut via a ritual involving eye of toad, a full moon, and a promise of your firstborn. But I haven’t used Vista yet, so that might be out of date.

Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a train
It would have been nice to get Wagner back, but at least we have adapted to the nauseating end game situations. The more horrifying aspect of this is the likelihood that the Mets will offer huge money and a lot of years to K-Rod.
K-Rod has been a very good closer, but he is going to get mega bucks because of “saves”. His peripherals are not that great this year and with his delivery his arm should be falling off in a couple of years. K-Rod will likely get Cy Young and MVP votes even though Paplebon, Nathan, Soria, and Rivera are all having better years.
I was hoping that the final year on Wagner’s contract would keep the Mets from making the huge mistake of signing K-Rod. Here’s hoping that there is a front office in MLB that is dumber than the Mets!

There is not.
K-Rod will be a Met next year.
On the other hand, Johan Santana has experienced the same dropoff in stuff, and has been effective. Totally not related at all to K-Rod, but just looking for the positives in the future situation.

I know this goes against reason
but I’m glad. I never liked Wagner.
Go ahead and reason against me, I stand against reason here.

the Milledge incident
Assuming it’s true, I didn’t care for him (WAGNER) putting a sign on Milledge’s seat in the locker room saying: “Know your place rook.” I’m not sure if it was a result of Milledge high fiving the fans coming from the dugout back onto the field after a home run or not.
