Aaron Harang and a bounce back season? Trade option?
This is the definition of buying low. Go look at his projections for next year. They're great, really great. Better than Ben Sheets. I mean, obviously, they're still projections, but sabermetrics are more often right than wrong. And besides, I honestly doubt we'd have to give up that much for him. With a good defense and run support for the first time in his life, Harang would be a very good #2 starter for us.

Would be nice
I wonder who we would have to give up to get him here. Imagine if he puts up numbers like in 07. Now that would be a bounce back year.
I'd be willing to give a little here.
This is a serious position of need for us, so in this case, I’d be open to trading more of our prospects than in other trade proposals.
Dusty Baker is poison to young pitchers
Maybe he’ll demand the team trade Harang because he can’t throw 600 innings like Dusty wants. Unless the guy demands to be dealt, I don’t think we’d be able to land him. Pity.

Haha, very true.
What’s the harm in inquiring about him? At least we’d know what our options are. I say go for it.
can somebody link to the projections squid 92 was talking about?
I have always liked Harang also and thought it was odd that he pitched so poorly last year. In a new pitcher’s ballpark like Citifield he would def be a strong bounceback candidate.
well
it looks like 2007 was a career year but it also looks like 2008 was a bad year. His home run rate went up as did his BABIP. Red’s park is a strong hitter’s park no? My guess is if he can duplicate his 2005/2006 numbers, he could be a very solid #4 starter for the Mets with some chance to be higher. And even if he stays closer to last year, he still could be better than Tim Redding. So I wouldn’t give up too much for him but I would def pursue him. anybody with better ability than me to make sense of these stats agree/disagree with my asessment?
I would bet cash money that Harang is better than Pettitte, Garland, and everyone else on the free agent market.
Maybe even Sheets. If I had to pick one, I’d take Harang.
but if you take him apart
and construct him with his arms where his legs are and vice versa, he’s definitely a number one. Like Voltron!
