Around SBN: NHL Trade Rumors: Do You Make A Move For Rick Nash?

What team are you pulling for in the playoffs?

Who are you pulling for in the 2009 postseason?

At the moment the teams that have clinched playoff spots are as follows:

-Colorado Rockies

-St. Louis Cardinals

-Boston Red Sox

-New York Yankees

-Philadelphia Phillies

-Los Angeles Dodgers

-Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The final spot will likely go to the Detroit Tigers, though the Minnesota Twins are not mathematically eliminated in that race.

I'm pulling for the Dodgers, with the Tigers a close second.

The team I'd least like to see win the World Series is the Yankees, followed by the Rockies (I really hate both teams)

I'm rooting for the Angels

Live in LA and dislike the dodgers so I’ll go for the neighbor team. Besides I really like Jared Weaver lol so hope he does well in the PO’s. Has had a great season.

Yeah

I certainly wouldn’t mind if the Angels won the World Series. That’d make for a great story.

I hope the Phils or Yankees win

I have given up hating the Yankees, it is an excersise in futility. I also don’t really hate the Phillies, they dont even really do the damage against the Mets. I can’t hate a team for just being there when the Mets dropped past them two years in a row. I like the Cards too. I would root for the Phillies because of Pedro. I root for the Yankees because then I don’t have to hear about how unclutch A-Rod is, ever again. Actually, the Phillies or Yankees winning (especially the Yankees) would help the off-season be more bearable by not having to hear about the Mets flaws as much, everything will be dedicated to jerking the Yankee cock all winter.

I know somebody will probably tell me I’m not a real Met fan or something, I honestly couldn’t care less. The Phillies are just a team that have been in second place and moved into first after we stumbled down the stretch. They never did any of that damage themselves. I’m sorry, that isn’t a “rivalry” and I can’t hate them for that. They don’t even come close to the late 90’s Braves teams for me. Those teams ripped our hearts out on their own, they didn’t just hang around second all year and hope for (and receive) other teams to do their dirty work. The Yankees don’t even play in the same league as the Mets, so I can’t put my energy into hating them, especially when on an individual level, I like most of the Yankee players.

Fwiw.

I find the Phillies and Yankees fans much more intolerable then their actual teams. Are the Phillies a team that you would hate if they weren’t in our division? If the Mets grission level weren’t constantly compared to that of the Phillies by a bunch of guys who don’t really understand the sport? The main thing is though, I really have a soft spot for Pedro, and would love to see him go on a nice postseason run.

As for the Yankees, as somebody said, they are a NY team, and although I used to hate them almost as much as I love the Mets, I just can’t do it anymore. Rooting for the Mets is a tough enough activity emotionally on its own. Rooting almost as hard for the Yankees to lose just simply isn’t worth it for me anymore. So, while it wouldn’t bother me at all if both of these teams go out in the first round, it wouldn’t bother me at all if one of them wins it all either, and in certain ways, I would enjoy it.

Those fans are why the winter would

be so unbearable if the Yankees won. If I have to spend the entire off-season hearing every mouthbreather around me boast about how the Yankees are so f$*)%g awesome, I will go on a killing spree.

I hear you. I moved to Arizona though recently, lol.

Normally I’d be in your boat. About 5-10 percent of my friends are Mets fans, about 80 percent Yankee fans, and then 10-15 randoms. I’m always outnumbered. I have also found that my Yankee fan buddies give me a much easier time if I am not openly hating the Yankees. This year I picked them to win the world series pre season, and surprisingly they all were very sympathetic about the Mets season lol.

part of it might be that my girlfriend is a Yankees fan, but not in an obnoxious way, and a bigger part of it is that I haven’t lived in New York in 8 years. Phillies fans are a bazillion times worse than Yankees fans, it’s not even close. At least Yankees fans actually have a legitimate reason to be arrogant.

If it comes down to Yankees-Phillies World Series – I’ll buy a Derek Jeter jersey if that’s what it takes for the Phillies not to win. I hate them with every fiber of my being.

anybody but the Phillies is fine by me

If the Yankees win it this year, they will have deserved it with all the pressure and hype that has been on them the last few years. Plus except for A-Rod and Nick Swisher, they all seem fairly likeable. Phillies have never been as good as everyone(meaning the media) thinks they are and they are assholes to boot. Red Sox are kind of annoying too but my brother-in law and my nephew are big fans so I will respect their wishes.

actually Swisher isn't good.

He just preens around a lot, mugs for the camera and hits meaningless home runs in a band box. Very overrated player in my book. I’ll let somebody else post his WAR over the last few years to see if I am right

I want to add that I also would rather not see the Cards win it all although I think they are actually the best team in the NL right now. To me the Cards still and always will be the Mets number one rival because of the 1980’s and 2006. Mets actually did fairly well against them this year for some reason. I can’t stand their manager and a lot of thier players and I will never forget how they celebrated their title in 2006 by chanting Jose Jose Jose. But if they go up against the Phillies, then I wish them good luck.

by Endys Game on Oct 3, 2009 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

His WAR, according to Fangraphs

was over 3 in 2006, 2007 and 2009. It was 1 in 2008, and 2.2 in 2005.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
