Marty Noble Strikes Again
Wow, it's like a Diss the Mets Greatest Hits collection. He touches on all the trendy subjects: grit, overhaul the team, the Mets have no farm system, Beltran's not worth his contract, you name it. He adds his own awesomeness, too, though, don't you worry. The Mets apparently have a high priority need for a set up reliever, they should resign Alex Cora, Francisco Rodriguez is an untouchable player, September production is infinitely more important than any other production...but my favorite is this:
"What prospects do the Mets have that other clubs covet? The many mistakes made at the big league level in 2009 by Pagan, Murphy, Martinez, Hernandez and Carlos Gomez, each of whom spent time in the Mets' organization, taint all the club's prospects."
There are no words. Considering his constant referral to Carlos Gomez, I suspect Noble hasn't watched the Mets since 2007.

With all the crap the Mets are getting,
I hope they go into 2010 with a chip on their shoulder and a “Fuck The World” attitude. Emphasis on hope.

Back in 2003, a lot of players on the Rangers made some mistakes
A-Rod and Mark Texieria sure will pay for that. Pay for it all the way to the bank.

Yeah, fuck Carlos Gomez
What did that loser do for us this season? Nothing, that’s what.

is Marty Noble worse than Joe Morgan?
I mean, at least Joe Morgan doesn’t know anything about prospects

Murphy/Kent
“Joined at the demeanor.” Hmm, Murph must have been a jerk to Noble, since Kent is/was rountinely considered one of the more prickly personalities in the game. Never heard that Murph was tough to get along with, though. I did hear that he was pretty cocky as a college kid. Not that any of this is very relevant, but that comment struck me as a shot at Murph.

logic fail.
“The many mistakes made at the big league level in 2009 by Pagan, Murphy, Martinez, Hernandez and Carlos Gomez, each of whom spent time in the Mets’ organization, taint all the club’s prospects.”
Carlos Gomez made mistakes this year.
Carlos Gomez once was a Mets prospect.
Ergo, all Mets prospects are likely to make mistakes and are tainted.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Let's dissect this
Has Beltran been worth one of the biggest contracts ever? If he had put up decent numbers in 05 and 09, maybe he would be, but atm I say it’s a resounding NO.
I’d love to see Cora back… as a coach (and not even a player-coach). He seems like a very nice guy and would make a pretty good bench coach, but for the love of God get him far away from the shortstop position.
We have a pretty serious need for a lefty setup man.
K-Rod is pretty untouchable, considering his huge contract, and path of regression.
Are you denying that our prospects have had a down year mostly?

"You guys can all be dicks sometimes"
So sayeth the commenter who hates one of the team’s best players for no discernible reason. Nice.
Also, Carlos Beltran has been worth about $95.5 million so far in the first five years of his contract, or 23.4 WAR per Fangraphs. I’d say he has totally lived up to the amount of the contract so far.

Jeez, if that's how you feel about Reyes, I'd hate to hear your thoughts on Hanley Ramirez
Or is he exempt because he won a batting title? I mean, he is one of the few, if only shortstops in the game better than Reyes, but its also much easier to produce tangible evidence that he’s a “distraction and a prima donna,” being that its actually possible to cite well documented instances where he would lock horns with coaches and teammates. The worst thing Reyes ever did was show up his manager by trying to stay in a game that he was being pulled from out of medical concern, not disciplinary action.

that comes from the fact that he likes to celebrate. I’m sure his teammates like him a lot, because clubhouse distractions usually get uncovered by the media, and the only report we had of teammates not liking him was your made up bullshit interview.

Victorino is a good(not great) player
who is also a sullen nasty jerk and pisses off other teams for no reason and even his own teamates on occasion. Reyes is a great player who pisses off nobody except racist jerks or foolish people who value gritty stoic sullen play over actual results by a player who shows that the game is also fun for him. Some people just can’t handle the fact that someone might actually enjoy playing baseball and want to be enthusiatic about it. But real Met fans know, as someone once said, that watching Reyes exhibit his great joy for the game is one of the best things about being a Mets fan.

Yes, I am denying that our prospects had a down year
because if you knew ANYTHING about our minor league system, you’d know that isn’t true. Ike Davis and Jenrry Mejia had HUGE years. Tejada, Thole, Flores, Holt, Martinez, Niese, etc. only increased their stock and perceptions. Guys like Allen, Niuewenhuis, and Familia established themselves as real prospects, guys who have a future. Havens wasn’t great, but it was fueled by injury and BABIP. The only really disappointing prospect this year was Marte…and he’s only 18.

I would dispute the last claim.
The universal Top 2 both had some spots on their seasons, but I wouldn’t call either one a major disappointments either, and getting further down you get some really substantial improvements.
Going through Kevin Goldstein’s preseason Top 11 list:
1. Fernando Martinez – Tore up Triple-A, still very young, injury ended his season early.
2. Wilmer Flores – Numbers hardly eye popping, but made lots of contact, plenty impressive in context though. Calling his season “down” is pretty short sighted in terms of prospect evaluation. A 17 year old striking out just 13.6% of the time in full season balls against guys mostly 2-4 years older than him is a mild success in itself, even if the production wasn’t there yet.
3. Jefry Marte – Okay, down year, no doubt here.
4. Brad Holt – Pitched well in HiA, struggled a bit in Double-A, but still missed plenty of bats. Reports were encouraging on his secondary stuff, but seemed to lose a little life on his fastball down the stretch. Either way he made some progress and its hard to call his year “down”
5. Jon Niese – Betrayed by his defense in the first half, by season’s end, his ERA came back into alignment with his peripherals. The injury was late enough in the season where you still have to call his season a success.
6. Reese Havens – Poor BABIP betrayed his excellent peripheral rates. A very good prospect who did nothing to hurt his status. Still finished 10th in the FSL in OPS despite a .277 BABIP. Also tied for 6th in the FSL in HR despite missing time with multiple small injuries. Oh yeah, and he’s a middle infielder.
7. Jenrry Mejia – Can you say helium? One of the top pitching prospects in the game at this point after not even cracking Top 100 lists a year ago.
8. Ike Davis – Went from as far off the map as a first round pick can get to ranked #13 overall in the deepest league in the minors, and the #1 first base prospect in the EL according to BA’s rankings as well.
9. Bobby Parnell – Had a very reasonable rookie season despite taxiing between the pen and rotation without any transitional “stretching out” period whatsoever. Still looks like a reliever in the long-run, but looked like that going into the season anyway. Hard to say his year was below expectation.
10. Eddie Kunz – He sucked before, still sucks. No change.
11. Scott Moviel – Projection still hasn’t gone anywhere.
Even if you rule out Fernando due to the early season injury and Kunz because he sucked to begin with, seven of these guys either improved or, at the very least, did nothing to hurt their status (Flores, Holt, Niese, Havens, Mejia, Davis, Parnell). And not even appearing on this list are Jeurys Familia, Ruben Tejada, Josh Thole, or Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who all had excellent and substantially improved years and all of whom should be making appearances on Top 100 lists.
How about the fact that 5 of the Top 10 OPS leaders in the FSL played for St. Lucie? #1 Kirk Nieuwenhuis, #3 Zach Lutz, #5 Brahiam Maldonado, #7 Carlos Guzman, and Havens. All those guys range from very good to great prospects aside from perhaps Maldonado, who was a bit old for the league and has done little else to inspire confidence in his minor league career. And That’s not even including Davis, whose promotion left him too short on AB’s to qualify, however his .867 OPS would have dwarfed the competition (Nieuwenhuis finished at .824), and he would have finished #1 in SLG and #3 in OBP if he had qualified.
Oh, and just for good measure, Kyle Allen FTW! How about Eric Niesen, too? He had a very good year and looks like a legit prospect.

On his rotowire list, which isa combo for fantasy and reality prospect top 100, John ranked Ike 21. Ahead of Morrison, Freddy Freeman and Alonso. Guys who were all ranked ahead of him even at the end of May this year (when ike first showed up in the top 100)

According to Cot’s he’s been paid $71 million since he’s been a Met, and according to FanGraphs he’s been worth $95.5 million. He has exceeded his contract even with two years where he was severely injured.
