This isn't imminent.
This is just Joel Sherman taking a break from curing cancer to brainstorm a plan for the Mets. Guthrie is the only non-horrible suggestion he makes, but he’s not someone you’d trade anything of value for — and certainly not Ruben Tejada. He’s a 30 year old right hander with a low K-rate and historically more of a ground ball pitcher (this season not withstanding) which goes against Sherman’s stated goal of acquiring flyball pitchers for Citi Field. Great research there.
In the same article, Sherman suggests two pitchers in Gil Meche and Ervin Santana with hefty contracts and major injury concerns. So stupid.

I'd just like to point out that naturally
out of the three guys proposed in Sherman’s article, we’re linked to the worst. Sweet.

This is exactly what the Mets need!
A crappy pitcher (their “ace”, no less) who has never exhibited anything special while playing in the Big Leagues. We could use another back-of-the-rotation starter, sure. I mean, it’s not like we have enough of them or anything.
This is why Omar needs to be fired. Not because of any questionable trades/free agent signings that have come back to bite us in the ass over the past couple of years, but because Rick Peterson could have fixed Gutherie in ten minutes.
