Steve Phillips Wheel-Of-Ineptness

Just a little poll. More on the affair here. Yes, she's not very attractive. Yes, she's mentally and emotional unstable. No, none of this is surprising given Phillips's well-documented and overwhelmingly maladroit past decision-making.

Running a baseball team

Sorry

but every guys has a crazy and/or unnatractive mistake in his past. Not every guy blabbers on for weeks that the best centerfielder in baseball is a choke artist loser who will never help a team win, despite ample evidence to the contrary.

Baseball analysis takes the cake and it’s not even close.

"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09

Yes, but...

… Phillips is apparently a pretty experienced adulterer. If there’s ONE thing he should know, it’s how to choose someone discreet with whom to share his pickle.

my thoughts exactly

I’ve dated crazy women, but I’ve never shit on Carlos Beltran.

Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

What, no "all of the above" option?

I feel like he is equally inept at all three of these things.

It's keeping me from voting

I can’t decide which he’s worse at. On the one hand she’s nuts, on the other he signed Roger Cedeno to a 4 year $18 million deal. Conversely, she really isn’t a looker but that offseason of trading for Mo Vaughn, trading Robin Ventura for David Justice and then trading the useful Justice for Mark Guthrie, trading for Alomar, and relying on Estes and Jeff “Big Daddy” D’Amico to be good starters was just as ugly. I mean c’mon. Then, there’s the whole Beltran thing. I can’t vote, this man is King Midas except everything he touches turns into tabloid gold.

I have to say

I find all the emphasis on her ‘unattractiveness’ a little old-fashioned. Just saying.

by deadspy3 on Oct 21, 2009 4:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gotta be mistress

I’m sorry, but the combination of her insanity and looks takes the cake. Hot and crazy? We’ve all been there. Unattractive but a great person? Nothing wrong with that. But come on Steve, even I thought you were smarter than this.

As bad as he was as GM, at least they made playoffs twice. And as bad as he is at analyzing baseball, at least he wasnt putting his family at risk.

Reynolds was fired for a hug

If ESPN follows that standard then Phillips will be fired shortly.

by cuseindahuse on Oct 21, 2009 4:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

There's a clear legal distinction

The hug was considered (non-consensual) sexual harassment. There’s no law against banging someone, consensually.

I still think he's being fired.

Good point

What I was alluding to in general is ESPN’s workplace conduct policy which was applied to Reynolds. Making an assumption Phillip’s actions will violate and lead to termination.

I agree

The man has no redeeming qualities. Obviously you feel bad for the kids and his wife, but they’re better off. This wasn’t the first, second or 100th time this sleazeball has done this.

And that’s before you consider his work as GM and baseball analyst

I think this pic is probably representative, actually

Some people just photograph badly, and in some of them all you can see is her nose. In this one you see a lot of nose also, but she’s young, she’s probably kind of cute. She’s plump, but plenty men like a little padding.

Oh, no, he was done with her long before she was done with him

If she’d had modern technology, lord knows what lengths she might have gone to.

He was pretty much just interested in having sex with her once or twice, and she thought he was her man. She would arrange to attend dinners if he was going to be there, show up in cities he was visiting, was always trying to put herself in his path. He considered her quite a pest.

Either way

I could actually imagine a lot of wives tailing their husbands and see him sit down with her and go “Jesus, I can’t blame him.”

Tom Brady w/Giselle's not a bad one either

I mean, he had just knocked up a pretty hot actress, and then he goes around banging one of the hottest super models on the planet (I think she’s a little overrated, but most guys love her). He loses a few points for settling down with her though.

It comes as no surprise that ESPN has suspended baseball analyst Steve Phillips for a week in the wake of his sexual escapades with a junior female employee. Steve finally admitted that he did have a brief fling with Brooke Hundley over the past summer. To go along with the fact that the man is a total sleaze, and an insult to the male gender, his wife slapped him in September with divorce papers, after his mistress stalked his family, although for the noble purpose of telling them how much of a sleaze he is. Apparently, the soon to be ex-Mrs. Phillips listened, and now Steve Phillips is going to need a new job, and a personal loan for a divorce attorney, and probably somewhere to stay.

Those of you who follow professional sports, particularly baseball, are likely familiar with Steve Phillips. He was fired from the ESPN network after having an affair with a 22-year-old production assistant.

I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
