nicely done

Personally, I hate Jeter more than A-Rod and would put him up there instead, but still, nicely done.

Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

b/c ARod's a way, way better player

and get’s like 1/5 of the amount of love and respect? And Jeter acted like a jealous little bitch when ARod (correctly) stated that had he been drafted by the Yankees, he’d probably have 4 World Series rings, too. At least, that’s my rationale

Word

Victorino and Jeter are the two players I hate most.

Jayson Werth is clearly a douche

but I can’t hate him that much because he’s much more underrated than many of his teammates. He’s been the second best player on the Phillies in the past two years, but he’s ranked behind Howard (homeruns!!!), Rollins (team to beat!!!), Victorino (grittymcgritgrit!!!) and the equally underrated Utley, not to mention Hamels or the rest of the pitching staff.

I just can't hate Utley

I live in Philly and people around here don’t appreciate how good he is. They would ship him out of town over Howard or in some people’s case Rollins which I just think is absurd. For that reason I can’t dislike the guy. He’s by far the best and most valuable player on their team and gets crapped upon far too often by their fans/media.

by Balagast on Oct 26, 2009 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Utley

he’s the only Phillie I can say that about. He’s a legitimately great player, and I’ve been a fan of his since I picked him up in fantasy in 2005, back when nobody cared about the Phillies. I also don’t dislike Werth, b/c like Squid says, he’s underrated. He still looks like a douche though.

i agree, i have no problem with Utley

aside from the horrible experience of spending any entire Mets-Phils game listening to some old witch of a lady directly behind me shreiking “Chase get your pretty face on base” over and over again for 9 innings.. not really his fault though.

yeah, that's my line of reasoning

A-Rod

One of my favorite players ever, going back to his Mariner days. Pretty amazing what he did at the plate as an awesome fielding shortstop.

by James Kannengieser on Oct 26, 2009 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Not good enough to stick at short though

Seriously, Jeter is a little bitch, a real “leader” would have moved off and let the better player play shortstop

And no decent captain

would have so relished seeing A-Rod twist in the media storm that he wouldn’t throw out a tiny signal of support for the good of his team.

by SuperT on Oct 26, 2009 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Jeter couldn't support A-Rod

He was too busy selling some shitty product to the moron masses with whatever vague marketable quality he possesses. I see through Derek Jeter; he’s nothing more than a significantly less talented Michael Jordan.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
