There's no real baseball being played or anything, so instead, let's trample on the downtrodden.

have a hard time putting myself in the shoes of Mets fans they’re pretty delusional shoes, after all

What a dick.

That's nothing.

With the win less than 12 hours old, Yankee fans are already calling th radio stations and sticking it to Mets fans.

Dicks.

Prediction for next NY media meme:

“Mets fans who don’t root for the Yankees are bad New Yorkers.”

worst thing is, I'm GOING to root for the Yankees.

I can't. I just can't.

I can’t deal with 50 Yankee fans at work and all the “new dynasty” talk.

I’d rather be able to say, at least the WS Chamption came from our own division.

That's a terrible reason, no offense.

You would WANT our division rival to win because their from our own division? Uh, no.

Its basically historical hatred of a detestable franchise

vs. recent but justified hatred of some loathsome individual players.

The fanbases are a toss up for me, so I have decided to ignore it to the best of my ability.

I've made my peace

I think we’re still being punished by the baseball Gods for 1986. This is hopefully the final indignity – pretty much the complete opposite of a Mets-Red Sox World Series.

"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09

Here's an even simpler idea...

JUST DON’T WATCH!

Only exception: the Phils are down to their final out to lose the Series…in their own ballpark, I may add. That simply because of my extreme case of schadenfreude.

But overall, I will not be seen watching this “Series.” Metstradamus is right: Why the hell should I root for someone in this Series? And why should I watch it in the first place?

Beer is good! And stuff!

b/c it's baseball

I had sworn off baseball back in August – I went on a two week vacation and didn’t miss it and just didn’t get back into it when I got home. I ended up going to 2 Nats games down the stretch just to use up a coupon booklet I had, but I barely even watched the games. I wasn’t planning on watching a single pitch of the playoffs, but then I stumbled across the Twins-Tigers game and got sucked in. Because, when it’s being played at its highest level, baseball is the best game out there. And as much as I hate these teams, I love baseball more.

ultimately what it comes down to is ive hated the yankees for my whole life

i’ve hated the phillies for 3 years, and not really given a crap about them for the rest. I’m not gonna consider them a real rival yet just because they string together 2 or 3 good years, even if they are pretentious douchebags about it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the phils at all, but they’re not even worth hating (except dicktorino, howard, and rollins because of how overrated they are). If the Phils had fought hard and beaten us the last few years, i’d be angry at them, but we beat ourselves, and the phils were just there to take over after we threw it away. As much as it pains me to say it, go Phils for now.

(this is all assuming meteor strike or veloceraptor attack aren’t valid options to cheer for)

Once again, KM's comment is 100% spot on.

I lobby you for FO job.

One minor point on your comment: It’s not those players’ fault they are over-rated.

Why does anyone take anything Matt Cerrone says seriously?

I'm disappointed

I saw the link was to an NBC Sports site, so I was hoping for a dreadful article from the great Mike “HatGuy” Celizic, who regularly gets an elbow in at the Mets as he pauses from his endless blather about the Yankees.

Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
