Alomar, Shines, Alicea Out; Warthen, Johnson In
1st base coach Luis Alicea will not be back on the Mets coaching staff in 2010. 3rd base coach Razor Shines will be back with the organization, but not as 3rd base coach (pop the champagne). Sandy Alomar Sr. will also be re-assigned, exiting his bench coach role. Pitching coach Dan Warthen, hitting coach Howard Johnson and bullpen coach Randy Niemann will retain their jobs.

With our luck
Razor Shines will be replaced by Dale Sveum.

My guess:
Luis Aguayo

Wait, let me fix
they could use a little spunk insane screaming bunting cursing coach, who probably has some more skeletons in the closet we don’t know about yet

Blart
This all but guarantees that Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya are going nowhere. Not that a manager can’t be fired while the pitching and hitting coaches are retained, but that particular outcome seems unlikely.

There.

oh well sure, but that doesnt come as a surprise to me
I really thought warthen and hojo were toast. Sadly we’re stuck with essentially the exact same coaching staff that failed this year now. Except we’re moving the windmill to another position. Maybe now we’ll just get thrown out stretching singles into doubles instead of at home!

Well, like Matt Cerrone posited over at MetsBlog:
… razor and jerry are tight, and razor’s positives, i.e. his attittude, positivity and encouragement, are probably better served sitting by jerry’s side…
I shudder to think of Jerry and Razor acting as a single brain-trust.

but he's our third base coach of life
without him, the mets wont know how to live. And I think they may be confusing positivity, attitude, and encouragement with waving your arm in a circle at every possible opportunity. He’ll probably take over for Alomar. With him as bench coach the players will definitely increase their OBP, so they don’t have to spend as much time on the bench listening to him.

Nice
Razor will have more of a Tom Hagen role with the team. Our prayers are answered.

If anyone wants to try and script this scenario, please go ahead.
All I’ve got is this short exchange compiled using the “Third Base Coach of Life” website:
Jerry: Hmm, Santana looks tired. Should I bring in Stokes?
Razor: Ahh, that’s a can of corn!
Jerry: So, is that a yes?
Razor: You’ll always get a straight answer from Razor. Except for right now.
Jerry: So yes or no?
Razor: GO GO GO GO GO GO (waving arm)!. I’ve got to get this one home; ask me again later. GO GO GO GO GO GO!
Jerry: Huh?
Razor: Thanks for sharing.
Jerry: Yeah, uh, gangsta.
Razor: Relax. Just play catch out there.

I always thought
it was all Luis Alicea’s fault.
by Mount17 on Oct 5, 2009 10:23 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
exactly
we can rest easy now. Luis Alicea’s days of ripping off his shirt and berating minor league players are certainly over. And players didn’t like the way he took their helmets and batting gloves after they got on base.

And my hopes for 2010 have been dashed.
My only hope for 2010 now is that they are on a very short leash. Not that it matters because I know where this offseason is going…. nowhere. I’ll be in the corner weeping, waiting for the 3 year, $36 million contract for Frenchy to be announced.

Actually I'm fine with this
These guys are peripheral problems at worst. Jerry and Omar are the central issues for me, and I’m not going to get upset that Warthen or Johnson get to stick around.

except
this seems to signal those two will be back. Why fire half your coaching staff but not the head guys?

Omar and the front office are to blame
even more than jerry. If they stay intact, then I don’t think it matters who the manager is.

Well definitely
I would want to see both Omar and Jerry gone. But without that happening, I don’t see these kind of moves making any impact.

hey Omar could hire the genius
who was able to get reliever Heath Bell for Jon Adkins and Ben Johnson in 2006!

At last,
our long nightmare is over! The great tyrant Luis Alicea is gone, and we can be free. At least 2011 looks promising.

Wait, what?
Why them? Did Alicea cost us the season?
