Mets moments of 2009
" In a season of decline, the Mets lost: • More games than they had in any season since 2003 • A player to an ankle injury suffered on the dugout steps • A run when a player didn't touch third base • Twice on walk-off grand slams • Three straight games to the Nationals • Fly balls in the twilight • Five of six games against the Yankees • The middle of their batting order • Fly balls in the lights • A game when a former Gold Glove winner dropped a 27th-out popup • Runs and baserunners when players didn't slide • 41 times in their last 62 games (PLEASE update to reflect the final 3 games) • Fly balls in the sun • Most of their starting rotation to injury • A game when they hit into a ninth-inning triple play • Three straight to the Pirates "

yeah, we, the true fans, should add to this list.
this came from Mets.com, so you know it’s watered down.
here is one: we lost a game because the bullpen catcher pinch hit.
didnt we essentially lose on a balk at some point too?
and i feel like there were a few game winning walks against us as well.

That second balk
was the play where Eckstein all hopped up and down and pointed at the mound, and Ronnie started sending him flowers and hotel room keys from the booth.

Wait
I stand corrected — the balk with Eckstein was Feliciano, not Pelfrey. That was also the game where Mujica got the win for throwing 1 pitch.
Hell, that might have been the signature game of the year, all things considered. Not as blatantly horrible as the Yankees or Dodgers games, but just a total farce.

No, that Dodgers game is the signature game of 2009
Everything that could have gone wrong somehow did. We went from winning 3-2 to losing 3-2 in a span of minutes when:
1. Ryan Church missed 3rd base, negating the go-ahead run
2. Pagan and Beltran miscommunicated and the fly dropped in between them
3. Jeremy Reed, playing 1B for the 2nd time in his career, threw wide of the catcher on an easy force out.
Guys playing out of position, stupid mistakes, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and painful losses. Yep, that’s the 2009 Mets.

I'll stick with my selection
If only because, at the time of that home opener, there was still hope and optimism for the season. Then everything went to hell. That sums up how I look back at this season.
But, hey, there is certainly room for more than one shitty 2009 Mets game to sum up the season. Yay!

that might be the defining game of the year
but the play that defines the season is without a doubt Castillo’s dropped pop up.

definitely
although the game ending unassisted triple play is up there too, for sure.

this is it for me
The two errors really gave me hope.
Then Francoeur gutted my hope like a fish.
"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it on the scoreboard?"
whose bright idea was it to play Reed at 1B?
oh, right, the manager of the 2010 New York Mets.
:headdesk:
I think about half of those balks wouldn't have been called if Andy Pettite did them.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"

irrelevant.
they were called.
Andy Pettite is a living God. How dare you mention him in the same thread ?.
