Towers would be a welcome addition to the Mets FO

Really?
I don’t think he’s done much to impress, and the fact that the Padres underachieved for the majority of his tenure is enough evidence.

Not bad, with 2006 most recently. He’s done well whenever he had some $$ to work with. Plus, and this is stating the obvious, he’s probably a more qualified GM than Omar Minaya.

If you say so.
The thing concerning me is his draft history, which someone in another post brought it up. Definitely not impressive. If we’re planning for the future, might we bring in someone who’s draft history, while not exactly dynamite, is solid?

Agreed.
Towers has a good track record of assembling a bullpen, but the guy’s absolutely awful at drafting.

Yeah I'd be okay with this
I think he’d be a fine assistant if he wanted the job. Maybe help put together a good, cheap bullpen?

My favourite part of this article is the subheading:
Mets GM reportedly interested in hiring dismissed executives
It’s quite a plausible statement about the kind of guys Minaya wants to work with generally
The guy who gave Wells and Rios $200 million combined?
That’s the kind of fiscal discipline (especially for a mid-market team) that Minaya can appreciate.
As far as Towers, I’m not a huge fan. He’s done “more with less” to borrow a Wire-ism than some others, but that minor league system is pretty bad considering where they’ve been drafting.
Of course, using the “he’d be better than Minaya” a headline of “Minaya looking to hire Bubbles the Chimp” would elicit the same reaction.
wonderful
Can someone please throw oodles of cash at Chris Antonetti and get him to leave Cleveland and save us?
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.
