There

I added a slightly more recognizable picture of Matt Holliday.

Other than Fielder, I don't know who those guys are

is that Endy Chavez?

between Fielder and Holliday

by nelsonc on Oct 7, 2009 11:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It is

It was hard to find a big enough picture that was more obviously him.

This made me lol

it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility that we might get Endy back

I want

Holliday, Endy and Chapman. I can live without Fielder because we’ll probably have to give up too many prospects for him and I like Ike.

I'd also have to consider the fact that we need a pitcher (proven) too.

The lineup would be ridiculous if we got those three.

Reyes
Castillo
Beltran
Fielder
Wright
Holliday
Pagan/Francoeur
Thole/Omir

I could probably live with that.

Babe Ruth?

Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

by Greenpoint Ian on Oct 8, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

fair enough

I just don’t think the Mets should shy away from Prince Fielder just because of his waistline. I mean, he’s 25 years old and he hits the tar out of the ball. Sure, maybe his weight means he’ll be washed up by the time he’s 34, but that’s still a long ways away.

yea, I don't disagree

I just like to drop baseball history knowledge whenever I get a chance haha

I don't know

I think he will have serious knee or ankle issues developing within 3-4 years which will probably make a move to DH the more sensible path. He is seriously huge.

I thought the Mariner was Ken Griffey Jr.

and I thought for a second you had jumped the shark.

The first version I saw had five faces.

I think there were two Endys. Having two Endys patrolling the outfield would be pretty awesome.

You could probably just go with a two man outfield and use another infielder. Mike Pelfrey would win 20 games.

by TheBigStapler on Oct 8, 2009 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Geez, why would the Mets want Endy Chavez back?!

I guess the lineup isn’t weak enough that we can stand another guy who can’t hit the ball 250 feet? Forget the current obsession with defense. the return of Beltran and Reyes will elevate the D significantly. The team’s biggest problem by a mile was/is the inability to hit the longball. If they don’t come up with a solution for that, next year will be more of the same.

Allow me to introduce you to

Messrs Washington and Roosevelt.

by Eric Simon on Oct 8, 2009 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Mets don't need to improve just one aspect of the team

We had bad hitting, awful pitching, and terrible defense this year.

Endy’s defensive advantage over Jeremy Reed or Jeff Francoeur is just as real and valuable as Carlos Delgado’s offensive advantage over Daniel Murphy.

Beltran’s health is not assured going forward, and we need a real backup CF.

by psiogen on Oct 8, 2009 1:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If we're going to be cheaper

we should sign Endy’s brother, Ender Chavez

Ender can only be acquired through (Billy Bean n/t

You may have Utley, Howard, Rollins, Hamels, and Lidge...but, WE have Fernando Tatis, baby. Two grand slames in one inning. Hello??

Bille Beane, Nose Tackle?

He's not big enough to be a nose tackle in 3-4 defense

He’d have to be a tackle in a 4-3 defense.

If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.

I love it

Hopefully, the Cards go quietly in the postseason, so Holliday doesn’t have a chance to jack up his price (aka pulling a Beltran).

I would love Endy — really anything that lets me think about that catch is fine by me.

Won’t pretend to know anything about Chapman other than he’s Cuban, throws hard and might be anywhere between 21 and 26 years old.

Do people think we have a real shot at Prince?

Endy Chavez

is coming off serious surgery on his leg, isn’t he?

by TheBigStapler on Oct 8, 2009 11:37 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

endy

i liked endy, and wouldn’t mind seeing him come back to the mets, but should he really be a top free agent target for the mets? he seems been a 1.0 WAR player the last three years.

by englishgrey on Oct 8, 2009 1:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

this makes sense

but I don’t think that was really Eric’s point, in any case. I’m figuring he’s on there for sentimental reasons as much as anything else.

I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
