no doubt. And I was just talking to my dad about the Holliday play and we’re both hoping his salary just went down like 5 million a year. It didn’t but we’re hoping!
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
I'm going to create two new screen names
So I can vote for all three.
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.
Holliday will be paid to hit the ball-
not catch it. He’ll still get his millions.
Still, that was ugly; I’ve butchered balls like that in my lifetime, but not since Little League. I always thought Holliday was an adequate major league OF; would he give Adam Dunn a run for his money playing in the wide open spaces of Citi Field?
Compared to the average left-fielder
-He’s an average fielder in terms of errors (which considering the competition means he’s probably not sure-handed)
-His arm is below average
-His range is well above average. (again this is compared to some pretty slow guys)
The end result is a guy who does an above-average at a position where the bar is set really low but you have to consider that you’re getting better fielding from that pos. than most of the league and that counts just the same.
To sum up, defensively, he’s a very tall midget.

I didn't Vote for Charlie
But, his usage of the bullpen was high comedy. I can’t wait to listen to the radio weenies in Philly tomorrow rip him a new one.
laugh now
but you know the Mets front office watched that game and said “hey, that Holliday guy looks just like Daniel Murphy in the outfield. We already have Daniel Murphy. Pass”

Exactly!
someone passed their audition for the Mets left field spot!

it looked like he did
In the postgame interview, he said “stomach”, probably because it sounds better on TV to say that than “nads”.

I think it's the price tag thing and it's not close
Sure, Holliday will cost in the mid to high teens per annum regardless, but I don’t think it’s inconceivable that the image of him catching what should have been the last out of a crucial playoff game with his nuts might linger in the minds of the relevant decision-makers, whether it should or not.
If Carlos Beltran cost a few extra bucks for his playoff performance, and I think he did, surely a guy could hurt himself too, in at bat or in the field.

Holliday is a horrible fielder. This is not the type of guy we want-even with his stick.
I advocated for Juan Rivera in the off-season and most on metsblog made fun of me saying we need a real LFer like Manny.
I stand by my statement. Not the fastest or best, but he coulda been had on the cheap and had a great year. The Angels did real well with him and Abreu
A preponderance of objective data disagrees with your opinion

King of the bling come to lay down the evidence//Not George Bush, L-Millz be da president
his advocating for Juan Rivera?

He's strange out there though
very awkward looking.
Nyjer only +12??? He’s a hawk.
Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.
That's only LF
He’s at +15 in center and he missed a bunch of time after getting injured. Converting to runs saved he’s at +16 for the year.

Makes sense
That adds up as I look at Fangraphs. I’d like to see the Mets go get him, great player. If only we still had LMillz to trade off…
Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.
The objectivity of the measurements involved in producing those ratings is unknown. The ability of those ratings to measure ability is unknown. Plus/minus or whatever zone rating you want to use might be a preponderance with the right jury. Still its highly debatable.
No
it’s not highly debatable. There is room for improvement, but these stats are still reliable.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
No
I think any rational, objective observer can this guy worked his ass off to return for at least one game this season. So no is “laziness” isn’t debatable, he just not lazy.

C'mon, Evan, you know my stance on this.

I know
I was just making that point to metsguy.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
And the fact that his teammates hate him
As evidenced by interviews stating as much (Note: interviews might not actually exist)

I said it's not
highly debatable.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
My first thought upon seeing this play
was: “He just punched his ticket to the Mets.”
I love how everyone is forgetting
that Holliday hit a homerun, without which the game would have already been tied. Sure, he cost them the game, but he also gave them a chance to win the game. In all, it was a wash – a good closer gets the next batter out.

Stop using logic
You’re trying up his value!!
If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.
Driving not trying

Also amusing, though not as much so as Torino:
Matt Stairs is so slow that they use a pitcher to run for him.
