Pinero had a great year sure.
but 3/30 no way. One good year does not a career make.

No. I want no part of Pineiro.
Another guy with a career year that we might throw too much money at.

I like Piniero.
But I do agree with the sentiment to be wary around him, since it WAS a career year by him. Then again, I’ve seen articles suggesting his success is repeatable.

Bill James' projections show him "regressing" to the not-so-great, jolly mediocre, not worth that kind of money Pineiro.

Bill James uses a specific formula, though. It doesn't hold true if there's a mechanics change, or a change in philosophy for a pitcher.

His first good, full year since 2003...
doesn’t make me want to burn a pile of money hoping to appease the small sample size god.
If we can’t get a solid, above average starter let’s ink at least one can’t miss position player (Holliday, please), and aim high with pitching by signing some high upside injury risks to short deals. The worst move is the middle ground of spending 35 million on three years of Piniero where the upside is he’s worth the contract and the downside is he’s essentially worthless. These are always, always, always bad moves.
Randy Wolf at 3/30 is a far better gamble. I can’t believe anyone can even dream of paying 3/36 to Piniero.
At least if the injury flyers work out we have a shot at the playoffs.
So what was Ollie for 3/36 equal to?
Self castration?

Plus it would cost a draft pick as he's a type A who's a lock to be offered arbitration.

on a totally random note
I can’t believe Piniero’s been around since (basically) 2001. I remember when he had a hot start and they made a big deal out of it – I thought that was in like 2004 or even ’05. I feel older every day
