27 year old superstar
for 32 year old superstar
Tough decision.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
I'm not too sure who Bill Price is, but I now know he's a moron.

Something he wrote in response
“As for Wright’s future: Honestly, what do we think he’s going to be in the next five years? Will he ever hit 40 HRs consistently? Will he ever become a Pujols or A-Rod type hitter? Of course not. What he is a nice hitter, a mediocre fielder, but a guy everyone loves. Let’s not forget, the guy hit 10 home runs this season in 535 at-bats. 10. Daniel Murphy hit more.”
My brain actually hurts from reading that
So David wright won't be one of the top 20 position players of all time
so they have to trade him for a pitcher likely to start going into decline before he Wright reaches his peak years. Brilliant!
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
How does this guy have a job? Honestly?
“Will he ever hit 40 HRs consistently?” No, and no one ever projected him to. Most players don’t hit 40 HRs consistently, so how is this a knock against Wright?
“Will he ever become a Pujols or A-Rod type hitter?” If by “becom[ing] a Pujols or A-Rod type hitter” he means hitting for power and a high average, then I’d argue that Wright is already in that category, with his career average of .300+ and his average of almost 25 HRs per year since debuting. Does he do either as good as Pujols or A-Rod? No, but most players don’t.
“Let’s not forget, the guy hit 10 home runs this season in 535 at-bats. 10. Daniel Murphy hit more." That’s nice, that Danny Murphy hit more this season. Wright is still up 140 HRs to Murphy’s 14. Hell, when Wright was 24, he was up almost 100 to Murphy’s 14 at age 24.

I just sent that douche an angry e-mail
Not like he will give a shit, but I just needed to yell at him.
I think there's some oatmeal left over from the earlier cereal trade.

like most sports media
especially this time of year, the guy is clearly just trying to get a rise out of readers/get his name out there. if you asked him on the street i’m sure he wouldn’t make this trade.
its the same way that theres always 1 writer who votes pujols as 4th runner up for MVP and then makes the rounds on all the talk shows to get yelled at. any publicity is good publicity right? for example i had no clue who bill price was before this and i read the daily news a lot. problem for him is that i’ll now actively avoid his article…
Yep
It’s MSM trolling and for their purposes, it works. Kevin Kernan is another master of the art form; Mike Francesa in the radio medium. Requirement #1 for becoming a NY media heavy – write/say outrageous things to rile people up.

Correction
Requirement #1 for becoming a NY media heavy—write/say outrageous things about the Mets to rile people Mets fans up. But don’t say anything bad about the Yankees. They’re our golden calves. Or Phillies either, they got enough grit to be untouchable.
Beer is good! And stuff!
If you say bad things about the Phillies, someone will half-fake slide into you and punch you when you're walking down the street

to be fair
they were ready to crucify Joe Girardi and poison Hank Steinbrenner’s coffee after the Yanks missed the playoffs and then started 0-8 against the Red Sox this year
"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09
I'm pretty sure all of them (big generalization I know) hate Girardi
Girardi isn’t nice to them like Jerry Manuel is and personal treatment of the writers by a manager is more important to them than actual results. Yanks winning the WS is the worst thing possible for their smear campaigns.

Are you suggesting
that professional journalists allow their own personal bias and opinions to cloud their judgment when writing or voting for awards? This is a pretty bold statement.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
in their defense
Girardi is an awful manager

not true
The media pretty much unanimously decided that the Yankees would have been better off without A-Rod after the 2005 season, and kept that meme going until last month.
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

from the comment section to Price's article.
“Bill, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
That sums it up pretty well I would say. And that is not even considering the part where he argues the Mets should pick up Vernon Wells as well.
the idiocy of it all
First of all, David Wright only had a bad season by the standards of David Wright. A scrub like David Bell would have killed to have one season in his career as good as Wright’s “horrible” 2009.
Second, Wright is obviously the only young superstar to have a disappointing season this year, right? I’m not going to look at the numbers, I’m just going to assume that Grady Sizemore, Curtis Granderson, and B.J. Upton all had MVP-caliber seasons this year.
Third, remember that guy Joe Mauer, who the Twins foolishly look with the 1st pick in the 2001 draft. Yeah, he had that great season in 2006, but was mediocre in 2007. Needless to say, he never had another good season after taking that big step back in 2007.
