tRA for Hitters
I was thinking whether it would be possible to do tRA for hitters; i.e take the batted ball run values, multiply by the batted ball numbers like in tRA and then divide by Plate Appearances.
Is this possible?

There's a thread related to this at Lookout Landing I think
can’t find it right now, will look again later.
PrOPS is what you are looking for
It’s on THT
The problem is that it, and tRA, use the average value of each batted ball. For pitchers, this works because there is little variation in the ability of pitchers to control quality of batted balls; however, the effect is much more dispersed among hitters. You’d be better with just straight wOBA, IMO.
right, a batter can control batted balls to a point
but there is still a lot of luck involved. One problem that there might be hitters, like Jacoby Ellsbury who get singles on groundballs more than regular players.

Yes, exactly
I haven’t seen it done yet, but I think this would be a good study to do firejerrynow. Take a look at the past couple of years worth of data, and for each year see which of PrOPS or OPS predicts next years OPS better. That will allow you to see if PrOPS takes out more noise than skill or not.

When we have adequate hit F/X data there will probably be a few new metrics in the tradition of tRA theory for hitters.

well, eventually, and this is what baseball "nerds" dream of
is that Hit f/x can personalize for every hitter; i.e how many times a linedrive hit to center field at #trajectory # speed and lands at #ft is a double, single, triple, or out for each hitter, and then use the according data.
