Pro Quality. Fan Perspective.
Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

I'll be on 'Pro Baseball Central' tonight at 9:30pm EST to chat about the Mets' long offseason. I'll mostly be talking about my spreadsheets, why I don't watch any games, and the myriad ways baseball could be improved by switching from human players to robots.

You should be able to listen via the internets at Pro Baseball Central or at The Eddie Kranepool Society.

On the topic of radio...

This needs to be seen by smart people.

Job as a pitcher is to give up as few runs as possible & WIN.. these other stats to me mean very little. Someone explain to me why Lincecum

Those guys are hopeless

At least Joe has an excuse (he’s old), but Evan should be smarter

We’ve made great strides with getting smart baseball writers into the mainstream (Posnanski, Neyer, Law, etc) but talk radio I’m afraid won’t happen. Intelligence and reasoned analysis is a liability.

Listened to their take on Wally Backman yesterday and it was just painful.

Talk Radio

Is about bluster and being a blowhard…mostly. Guys like Steve Summers will never get the day time jobs because they wont berate the listeners when they disagree with them. I love Joe B. but his partner Evan is useless…bring back Sid.

BTW, look for the phone pranks played on Fatman Franscesa on Youtube. The “who is more disappointed on a nightly basis, Islander fans or your wife” is classic! Fatman went on for 10 mins yelling that calls like thatr never make the cut, meanwhile, he was live on TV on Yes! Awesome.

Oh boy...

Even with advanced stats aside, that’s so wrong it’s not even funny…

Remember that site SaberMets

Garbage.

the number one issue facing the Mets is finding that one guy who’s going to say "get on my shoulders and ride me to the championship."

Whoah

What a blast from the past.

Back when Victor Diaz was a hot prospect, and David Wright was just called up to AAA, we have this gem:

According to the Bergen Record, when pitching coach Rick Peterson was reviewing film on the pitchers the Mets were considering taking with the 3rd pick, all of them had one mechanical flaw or another. Except one, that is. Philip Humber was the only pitcher he saw with flawless mechanics.

What could have been, huh?

Or this:

It was a bit surprising to see Kazuo “Kaz” Matsui listed here as a Mets Top Prospect, but by their definition he is one, and he has the potential to be a big star in the Major Leagues. He has average power, plus-plus speed, plus-plus defense, and, from what I’ve heard and seen in the limited footage available, is an electric player who promises to make everyone around him take notice.

Looking at past posts is great fun time waster.

I just finished a book, Believniks, that was basically a journal of two fans chronicling the 2005 season.

It was…interestingto see the future, at the time: Victor Diaz, Anderson Hernandez, Mike Jacobs, Jae Seo…

what a waste time

‘Pro Baseball Central’ guys barely asked questions to Eric. ‘PBC’ were doing all talking. They were just blapping on and on, until they switch the topic to Boxing. WTF!

Don’t waste your time downloading the link above.

Eric, you should try to go on the http://www.thehappyrecap.com , they will at least let you talk more than 2 min. and ask better questions.

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
