If the Yankees are going to win this thing

at least let them win it tonight on the road.

yeah, so the Phillies fans go home dissapointed

Yeah, but....

Francesa was sounding a little scared about Burnett on short rest. He was worried that if Lee beats Burnett, then Andy on short rest vs. Pedro on full rest would be edge to Pedro, and then you’d have a fully rested Hamels against a tired CC in game 7.

I would be fun to watch him and the Yankee fans sweat out a game 7.

In general, any series that gets to a game 7 works for me. I like the drama.

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 7:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

seconded

i will tune in ONLY to watch the Yankers celebrate on that gritty field of passion, so as to avoid a couple hours of Buckist air pollution. I for one, welcome our new Yankee overlords.

i have to say this world series has been a surreal experience

never have i watched a baseball game and been so totally indifferent when a team scores or when a good play is made. Theres just nothing there.

Chase Utley, is like the ony Philly I would welcome on the Mets

except for maybe Lee. Everyone else is too douchey

...and Girardi pushes the panic button.

if the Phils win this one, tomorrow will be an enjoyable day. I may spend most of it locked in my office listening to the belly-aching on the radio…..

Well dang.....

I didn’t know Amazin’ Ave had WS game chats. Wish I did before tonight. Following along on some Philly or Yanks game chats was making me sick..
Have to laugh b/c the only thing they agree on is the umps suck and McCarver is a homer fan of each respective team, depending on whose blogs I was reading…..

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hey

So what’s the consensus on this blog? Rather see Yanks or Phils lose the series?

It’s been heavily debated on our real dirty Met blog for the past two weeks. It’s running like 70% wanting the Phils to lose, 30% Yanks to lose.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I want the Yankees to lose.

Notice I didn’t say I want the Phillies to win.

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

LOL

That’s the one thing we all agree on – none of us want either team to win!

I’m a life long Yankee hater but I just cannot bring myself to see the Phils win this year again. Just can’t do it…

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

it depends how many fans of each team you have to deal with over the winter.

for me, its (1) Phillies fan, and ( hundreds ) of Yankee fans.

it’s really no contest

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well,

in my family it’s first generation Met fans, second generation Met fans, 3rd generation split between Phills and Yankees fans. And that’s just family.

Thankfully, my office Command is located in VA so coworkers don’t much care one way or another….

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And who ever commeted above about AJ...

I have to agree. They paid a lot of money for the Yankee version of our good/bad Ollie. You never know what you’re gonna get from that guy on any given start.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:38 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah, but AJ Burnett sounds manly

Ollie Perez sounds like (and is, in fact ), a cartoon character.

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ha!

Can’t argue there.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well....

true to form, the two Phils blogs I’ve been following having been doing nothing but whining – and I mean big time. There was one long argument earlier today on Philliesnation.com where one guy kept going on and on about that ARod hit the camera HR. Said it was illegal. Said it changed the whole Phillies mindset. Said they were playing scared. I’m thinking ‘Oh, brother’. The whining was a multitude of everything from that to Fox only shows replays of pitches for blown calls for Yanks pitchers to the never ending meeting on the mounds by Yanks to slow the game down.

And the Yankee fans over on Pin Stripe alley – well, they’re true to form. ’WE ARE THE YANKEES. We are great. blah, blah, blah…

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But the best was...

Neither side can stand Buck and McCarver. Both think they’re homers for the opposing team. And one guy actually said they should have hired the SNY booth b/c those guys know baseball and call a good game.

SNY – best booth in baseball.

PhilsPhandom

the other day were actually trying to convince each other that Victorino was a better CF than Beltran and Rollins was a better SS than Jeter, across their careers so far.

Talk about clueless.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:49 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

And I don't know

which comment was more crazy.
Rollins had like one good year. Jeter is most probably going to the HOF.
And Victorino better than Beltran? Couple of Met fans asked them to prove it and I think all they could come up with was that Victorino had more ‘heart’ and ‘grit’. LOL.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

80% of Phillies comments on these blogs though

agree that both Hamels and Lidge should go.
Yeah…..I think they owe Lidge like 23MIL over the next two years.

Hamels they just signed that extension for but I suppose he could be traded.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Here's a comment on Beerleaguer on the meetings at the mound...

Someone give Posada and whoever is pitching a pair of walkie talkies. Maybe next season they’ll put one of those airport moving walkways between the plate and the mound.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

funny....

I like the walkie – talkie thing

You guys

would probably get a kick though of out PinStripe Alley.
Theire idea of a rally cry is numerous pictures of very hot women.

I thought it had something to do with ’ Roid Rage.

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 10:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not on the Phillies blogs

that’s for sure. The comments I’ve been reading all season has me convinced that many on those blogs truly are bandwagon fans. I think I know more about Phillies history than they do.
They were trying to convince themselves this morning that they can come back from being down 3-1.
One actually said, ‘if the ’86 Mets can come back after game 4 being down 3-1, we can’.
Uh….correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it 2-2 after 4 games in ’86? LOL.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Really

i thought their rally cry would be something like Clemens throwing a bat or a picture of a mets fan crying

Funny you should say that...

Last night, one of the blogs posted that picture of Clemens throwing that broken bat, commenting something like Piazza was a weannie who wouldn’t go after Clemens.

is headed back to NY.
Unless they bring that god awful Philly BP in and collectively, they blow it.

Oh,

that’s another thing Phillie fans have been complaining about. Said that Jorge has been doing nothing but arguing strikes with umps and he’s getting away with it.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:20 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

As ideal as the Yankees clinching tonight sounds, I'm doubting it will happen.

Think about it: First season in a brand spanking new mansion stadium with probably, in their fans’ eyes at least, the perfect team ever assembled in Yankee history. What better way to end the season than to clinch it at home?

Scary, I know.

Beer is good! And stuff!

by R_Adragna on Nov 2, 2009 10:23 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

But worse is...

they’ll go back to NY and win it there. If they’re gonna win it, I’d rather it had been tonight in Philly.

and BTW….have to give Steinbrenner some credit for letting 9000 fans into Yankee stadium last night for free to watch the game together on the big screen. You have to wonder if the Wilpons would have.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

HAHAHAHA!

sad part is, that’s probably true…

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

They would, BUT...

Instead of a big screen, they’ll use an old timey TV complete with rabbit ears that they bought at New Jersey’s Columbus Farmers Market.

So, Lee at 103 pitches

I think…
Do they bring him back out? I say no. Let’s see the Philly BP try and hold this. I need the yuk, yuk factor. If it’s gonna be painful either way, give me some laughs…

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:30 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I would bring him back out,

and have the bullpen ready to go.

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 10:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't either.

It’s the phillies version of the Met ’08 BP – only our closer was on the DL last 6 weeks, instead of being crap.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:33 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Utley.

Holy shit, he’s good.

by fxcarden on Nov 2, 2009 10:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah,

without Utley and Werth, not much offense from this team in this series.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Well, one thing for sure

it won’t be Hamels this year.

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Every time they show him in this series

he looks like he’s lost out in space somewhere. Sorta like what we see from Ollie – wondering what’s going on his mind at times. Well, most times….

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Wanna bet he'll be a journeyman the rest of his career?

I hope that happens, because we’ll all take joy on what a flukey season he had and a flukey career he’s having.

Beer is good! And stuff!

by R_Adragna on Nov 2, 2009 10:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Or Rollins, which is worse than anything.

Then it’ll be two awards he didn’t deserve to win.

What fucking gives?

by KeithsMoustache on Nov 2, 2009 10:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Rollins?

He’s batting like .200 in this series, right?

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 2, 2009 10:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That MVP award really gets on my nerves, and still does.

All because of a gutsy prediction and a Mets collapse does he get that award? I wonder what he was doing to try and attain such an honor. Then again, I rather not wonder.

I wouldn’t go that far. You can’t compare KRod to Lidge, at least not the ’09 version of Lidge.

we may not like victorino, but he’s apparently a better manager than charlie manuel.

note: don’t arbitrarily bench your center fielder in the late innings of a world series game! may have cost them three runs (in the what if universe.)

Ugh

two of my best friends who haven’t shut up about being at Game 5 of last year’s World Series were at the game tonight. I was so, so, so badly hoping the Yankees would complete the comeback. Derek Jeter is the unclutchiest player ever.

Somehow, I wouldn’t be shocked if Carlos Beltran gets blamed for Cap’n Jetes’ DP tomorrow
