JoeyP agrees with me
I must have done something wrong.

JoeyP continues to impress.
“Before we begin today’s discussion, I suggest some new terminology since there was, and will continue to be confusion, without some simpler system. Roy Halladay I will refer to as hday1, and Matt Holliday will be hday7. I was talking about hday1 yesterday when someone thought I was talking hday7. Ok, now that’s out of the way…”
What’s so confusing about Roy Hallday, and Matt Holliday? Their names sound similar, yeah, but they are clearly spelled different, and both play two very different positions. Does “hday1” and “hday7” really make things simpler? Come one…
“The question of course is would met fandom be able to endure one more year without the postseason?”
Majority of our team’s history, we haven’t made it to the postseason, so I think we’ll manage to cope. Majority of our team’s recent history history (‘99 – ’09) we haven’t made it to the postseason, so I think maybe we’ll cope somehow.

Love JoeyP's System
“I suggest some new terminology since there was, and will continue to be confusion, without some simpler system. Roy Halladay I will refer to as hday1, and Matt Holliday will be hday7”
So the best way to differentiate Halladay/Holliday is to eliminate the different letters they have in there names?

I just reported him for objectionable content
My complaint: “I can’t understand anything this person says”
I have to ask, but I have a feeling there is no answer
Why 1 and 7 to differentiate them?? Why??

I was wondering that too. You'd think it'd be '1' and '2'. '1' and '7' are pretty arbitrary.

Halladay is a pitcher (1) and Holliday is a left fielder (7)
How does that make it simpler????

Ah. That makes sense. I didn't think of that.
That shows a cunning and intelligence that I didn’t realize existed!

He really is. I'm looking at his history of posts there, and found a few gems:
“I heard those same rumors, and friends of mine who are Red Sox fans were saying that Reyes would have fit in perfectly with their offense. I’ll never understand why Minaya could not see the same thing. He had stars in his eyes over Reyes. What a blunder in overestimating someone’s value. Now the secret’s out, and we’ll never get the same return on the investment that we could have had…”
“Give Santana a Holliday or Lackey to back him up, and all the other problems will go away (or at least almost all the problems, we’ll still have Reyes with his head in the clouds…)”
“I see nothing wrong with the way Minaya put the team together (in theory).”
“I thought Rollins’ play in the 5th to make the double play (what was Matsui thinking?) was one of the smartest plays I’ve seen. Costa, I bet you know where I’m going with this one…When have we ever, EVER, see Jose Reyes make a smart play like that? Mets fans and Mets players shouldn’t hate the Phillies. They should be taking notes.”
“Decent stats on this Carter guy. And glad to see that mouth Wagner gone. all talk- no action from that guy. No wonder Burrell was on his case.”
“Agreed. They need a new presence. That’s why delgado must go, and Reyes should go as well. Beltran annoys me, but if surrounded by other good players with some intensity, then he’s an indispensable talent. Same goes for Wright, who just needs to relax at the plate, and not try to be a leader (which he’ll never be).”

Is he from Rahway?
On a related note, I really can’t stand Joe Piscopo.

that's one of the worst things I've ever read
“Mets fans and Mets players shouldn’t hate the Phillies. They should be taking notes."
Duly noted – next year start more fights in the stands
"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09
actually
though he generally sounds like a dummy (lol at hday1 and hday7)… he has a point here… the phillies play fundamentally sound baseball, we have a lot to learn from them
"Solo homers usually come with no one on base." -Ralph Kiner
Off the top of my head
Dicktorino leaves the ball in play as it gets stuck under the fence in the outfield and Utley and Rollins don’t cover second as the batter takes second on a walk. Every team makes mistakes, if you watched the Phillie on a regular baseball, they probably make as many bone headed plays as the Mets do.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
to victorino's credit
i’m assuming he thought that was a ground rule double (like it is when a ball gets stuck in the ivy)

stop loving the Phillies.
I know they have Rollins, and he’s like Grission extraordinaire when compared to Reyes, but please, stop

"Who are these bloggers???"
“What are their credentials? What’s my name? Where am I?” Joey P is my new reason for getting up in the morning. The guy is bringing unintentional comedy to new heights. What will he say next? And the fansince77 is not far behind. Can we please get these guys to be regular contributors here? They can provide hilarious point/counterpoints. Please?
Oh, and we need someone to provide pics of Hday7 and Hday1 jerseys. Somebody photoshop this please!
I think this might suffice:

Hey day 1 and 7. It's like Saturday and Sunday.
Except when you have your own business. Then, you can’t have both. Or any of them.
It's the wrong question.
“If the Mets do not sign John Lackey, which other free-agent pitcher do you think would be the best fit for them?”
It’s pitcher*S*.
pitcher*S*. people!
The guy from Faith and Fear raises a good point
Good infield defense would go a long way toward improving the pitching.
True
Somebody’s gotta field all of those Ollie Perez walks.
by Eric Simon on Nov 20, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
It's not like he is one flyball pitcher. Or that he gives back-to-back walks followed by HR.
The infield can still turn a DP, so he can walk more guys without giving up runs.
Ollie's 28.3 GB% says otherwise
but obviously IF defense is not a bad thing, esp. if Niese ends up in the rotation.
the number one issue facing the Mets is finding that one guy who’s going to say "get on my shoulders and ride me to the championship."
Apologies
The HR thing threw me as regularly is HR rate isnt that terrible, at least I thought so anecdotally
the number one issue facing the Mets is finding that one guy who’s going to say "get on my shoulders and ride me to the championship."
I actually think it is usually pretty bad.
1.33 for his career, which actually puts him at like 9th from the bottom on fangraphs career leaderboards.
Woof
it’s so hard trying to find the silver lining with Ollie.
the number one issue facing the Mets is finding that one guy who’s going to say "get on my shoulders and ride me to the championship."
He's gonna be Sandy Koufax and we're "only" paying him $12 million dollars!
Talk about a silver lining!

I think that everyone in the rotation except for Pelfrey is a fly ball pitcher. Maine, Johan, and Perez. I would guess Daniel Murphy and Gary Sheffield would not have helped if two of these three guys actually pitched this season. But yeah, O.P.s walks would destroy anyone not named Brian Bannister.
If Joel Pineiro gets added
Then I think IF defense becomes a big priority.
Really
it’s just second base. Wright is average, Reyes is probably average (and isn’t going anywhere anyway), and offense is going to determine the first baseman in all likelihood (or it’ll be Murphy, who was pretty good defensively last year).
When I say up you Castillo
Yeah, I was talking about Castillo and second base when I mentioned upgrading the IF. If We can’t move Castillo we need at least a plus defender to back him up, and Reyes, in the event of injury.
oops
The title was supposed to read “When I upgrade you say Castillo”.
Why?
Why are we not looking into Omar Vizquel. I hear he might sign with the Sox for $1M. He would be a great back up for Castillo and Reyes. He can also teach Reyes some tricks of the trade.
