Mets expand presence of history at Citi
"[T]he first-base VIP entrance will be named after Gil Hodges, who led the Mets to their first World Series title in 1969, while the third-base VIP entrance will honor pitching legend Tom Seaver, widely considered the franchise's greatest player. The left-field VIP entrance will be named after Casey Stengel, the team's colorful first manager, and the outfield bridge will be dedicated as Shea Bridge to commemorate William A. Shea, who was instrumental in bringing National League baseball back to New York after the Dodgers and Giants moved to California following the 1957 season."

how else were they going to inform us of this
"Solo homers usually come with no one on base." -Ralph Kiner
LOL.
"Never throw a slider to The Glider."
- Ed Charles, No. 5
this is a no brainer
i just can’t believe they opened the stadium without thinking of this crap before hand. I’m scared that they needed the fans to tell them to have mets colors and logos around the stadiums
just do what I'm doing
and pretend 2010 is the inaugural season for Citi Field. 2009 does not exist. You’ll feel slightly better that way

These are the same people that continue to employ Omar Minaya as GM.
Should we really expect anything else?

+1
What I wouldn’t give for the Mets to skip the free agents this winter and just throw the money at Andrew Friedman to get him to leave Tampa Bay and come to Flushing…..
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

Oh dear
It’s scary how logical that sounds.

Why do we have to have someone already employed?
there are a wealth of good candidates, inside the TB org, even.
it was hyperbole, mostly
Sure, I’d love to see one of Friedman’s smart lieutenants become the next Mets. My (hyperbolic) point is that no matter what moves the team makes, it’s still going to suffer from the fact that the front office is a bunch of nincompoops.

That's...cool...Okay, how about doing things that will improve the team now.

Wow.
A totally meaningless action has been completed. Whooppeedeeedooo. Now maybe we can fire that bastard first base coach who made us lose all of those games. Lets promote Razor Shines too so we can make sure we get his pearls of wisdom as a bench coach. Let’s see, what else do they need to do in order to fake like they’re doing something. Oh those outfield walls. You see the problem wasnt that they were too tall of too far back. No. They are black. Paint them blue and we’ll see David Wright’s power numbers explode.
All kidding aside, The Mets have done nothing this offseason to inspire any confidence in management. The two clowns are still in charge of baseball decisions and Jeff Wilpon is micromanaging the new Mets Hall of Fame. Which is funny because the idiots they have in charge of that is cringeworthy. Until Minaya and Manuel are fired this team is going nowhere fast.

wait
our first base coach last year (luis alicea) made us lose so many games? was he hitting players in the shin as they rounded first base or something?
"Solo homers usually come with no one on base." -Ralph Kiner
He insisted on giving everyone a bear hug as they rounded first.
He wouldn’t take no for an answer, either. He chased Reyes down halfway to second and tackled him to give him his hug.

the 20 mil per year for 20 years we're getting from citi
can help tremendously if it’s put back into the ballclub

Exactly. Citi Bank is paying for Matt Holliday.

Let me rephrase then, for the worst case scenario:
Citi Bank is paying for Jeff Francoeur for the next three years, plus a little bonus something for Alex Cora.
Though, think about it like this: Citi Field isn’t that bad, as far as corporate endorsements go. Be happy it’s not something like “Home Depot Stadium”, or “Microsoft Field”. Citi sounding like City makes it sound not too bad.

that's what I've said to everyone who bitches about it
the name could be SO much worse

Citi Field is actually a pretty good name
I’d prefer Shea, but Citi field could pass as non corporate sponsored name.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
Did 1986 ever really happen?
What I take from this announcement is that Wilpon still refuses to acknowledge the Mets actually won the WS in 1986.
I’ve never seen a franchise try so hard to erase all evidence of its last tite.
I don't know about you, but when I went to Citi Field the only time I went (May), I saw plenty of banners around the stadium with '86 players on them...

Agreed
I also think Hojo, Ron Darling, Keith Hernandez, Tim Teufel, Wally Backman, Darryl Strawberry, Mookie Wilson, etc. would beg to differ with the suggestion that the Mets organization is trying to forget 1986.

James, you don't get it
until Gary Carter is catching, Keith is playing first, Ray Knight replaces replaces Wright at 3rd, and Gooden steps onto the mound on opening day collectively wearing the racing stripe uniforms, I will remain convinced that the Mets are trying to erase all memory of the 1986 season.

Why would they?
Because they didn’t live to the Wilpons’ expectations of being lousy, soft, humble, “Gee Willikers” type players like our current team?
I’m getting my pitchfork and torch. It’s time we force the Wilpons out! Who’s with me?
Beer is good! And stuff!
We probably could use Doc, actually...
