The Mets have called on Russell Branyan
A cheap 1B who can hit for power and was slightly above average defensively last year. It's logical, so it won't happen

Do the Mets do anything logical?

Called on Branyan.
Sounds like a bad techno song.

I dunno, I can't tell the difference.
Although Tiesto does make some pretty killer tracks.

bad back?
and has 8.8 war over like 2800 career plate appearances. Signing him before last year? Good move. Signing him now? Not so sure. Career year at 33, although he could pretty much always do what he did. He might be ok, but the herniated disk and second half numbers of .193/.274/.414 kinda scare me off.

I have concerns, too
given that he’ll get something like 1/6 w a vesting option.
I’d much rather the Mets spend that money on all the other, more serious problems in the lineup and on the pitching staff. My prediction is that a Murphy/Evans platoon at first will combine to be slightly below average at bat and above average in the field—for about $1 million. Why not spend that $6 mil for Branyan on someone like Jon Garland who fills a gaping hole in the pitching staff?
