Trading for Miguel Cabrera --- Worth it?
"According to Lynn Henning of the Detroit News, Miguel Cabrera might be as available as any other Tigers player this winter.
The Tigers need to cut payroll and are shopping all of their superstars this offseason. Cabrera is by far the most talented played in Detroit, but he'll also command the largest (and most talented) chunk of prospects. The 26-year-old hit .324/.396/.547 in 2009 with 34 homers, 34 doubles and 103 RBI. He finished fourth in this year's American League MVP voting."I personally hate the guy, but he's a filthy baseball player, ridiculously young, very talented.

He's only 26!?!?
that’s nuts. Feels like he’s been around forever. I mean, obviously it would be awesome if he were on the Mets, but it depends on what they’d have to give up for him

yeah the 26 surprised me too
he must have started pretty young.

Yeah, he was like 19, 20 when he got called up.
I think he was the Marlins’ most tenured player when they traded him.

I also can't stand him. That said, I'd have no problems with him at first.
He’d be blocking Davis, sure, but a lot like how we were saying that in the best case scenario, Fernando Martinez would develop into a Curtis Granderson-type player, it’d be the best case scenario that Davis develop into a Miguel Cabrera-type player, sans the attitude and flab. Because we have Davis waiting in the wings, though, I wouldn’t want to give up a massive package of prospects for Cabrera.
Maybe we can also exchange a Perez for Willis bad-contract for bad-contract deal? I still like Willis, and at least he can pinch hit.

not old enough
the mets will wait till he’s at least 40 before they sign him
Depends on what they want for him
I guess my question is would we be better of trading for him or trying to trade for Crawford? The fact that we wouldn’t be dealing with Friedman is enough for me to want them to try and deal for Cabrera instead.
Cabrera is incredibly talented, but he has a monstrous contract attached to him
Crawford does not.
Friedman is not a god, and his seeming superiority would not prevent me from trying to acquire Crawford.
Are you sure?
That’s about what Holliday is supposedly getting right? You don’t think Crawford will get in that neighborhood? And even if he doesn’t you know he’s going to take way more of a prospect package than Cabrera because 1. he doesn’t have that monstrous contract yet, and Detroit is having major financial problems 2. it’s a gm who knows what’s he’s doing vs Omar. If you factor in what you’re losing in prospects + the contract you’re going to eventually have to give Crawford I imagine you’d get similar value to what Cabrera is being paid.
Given all of the medical mishaps this season, I'm sure we already have cancer, too, along with pulled muscles, knee problems, surgeries, weak backs...

I might continue the "House MD fixes the Mets" fanposts.
Pilot. Though I wish there were more comments.
.....
Yes, because this team really needs a cancer in the clubhouse.
Yeah, because this team really doesn’t need a .400 wOBA bat in a corner.

There's gotta be a joke about his weight in there somewhere. I'm not talented enough to coax it out, though.

So that's what makes David Eckstein so great. All his scrawny little corners!

Matt Klaassen did a write up on Cabrera's trade value
I think the conclusion he comes to is pretty interesting. Cabrera is a very good player but so few teams can afford that contract and with Detroits financial problems they may have to settle for a so-so package, or almost treat it as jump as a salary dump.
