wait

why are we insulting this guy for a totally valid point? there’s a pretty good chance that the mets might make all these minor changes (renaming things at citi field, uniform changes, etc) to avoid addressing their lack of a good on-field product

I dunno about anyone else

but, for me, it seems inane to jump on the Mets for not making any major moves to improve the ball club for next season when we’ve been in the free agency period for, oh, five days. It’s real early and there is a lot of off-season left to burn. It’s not like the organization does one thing at a time, y’know? Criticism like Bondy’s (masquerading as a weak attempt at humor, I guess), doesn’t really make any sense to me at this point. If we’re in mid-February and the team is rolling out new unis without having made any other substantive changes this winter, then I think you’ve good a good basis to write a complaint column in your crappy tabloid.

In sum, too soon to be complaining that the Mets haven’t made any major moves.

That's my exact reasoning for this post

The guy is already jumping on the Mets for not doing anything in FA when only 5 days have passed. It’s absurd, illogical, and it seems like Bondy wanted an excuse to take a potshot at the Mets.

And he used the word "managerment"

I can’t figure out how seriously to take this.

Hmm...So, Adam Rubin lobby for managerment? It all makes so much sense now...

Bleacher Creature

Bondy used to write a column and then a book about being a bleacher creature at Yankee Stadium. I found the whole faux pro-prole attitude kinda annoying (hey, look at me, I’m a sportwriter but I hang with folks who throw batteries at Ken Griffey). As if folks in the upper deck are any less “working class” than some of these frankly obnoxious a-holes

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
