Quiet Applesauce - New Met uniforms, Omar very intrigued by Molina, Pujols is NL MVP
Enjoy your holiday everyone.
Meet the Mets
Ken Davidoff gives us an update on the Mets' offseason to date and goals for the future. Two scary things to note in the article. One: the Mets point to the Francisco Rodriguez contract negotiations as their ideal. Two, Bengie Molina is the free agent who intrigues the Mets the most.
The Mets introduced new uniforms. And there was much rejoicing.
Around the NL East
The Phillies came to terms with utility player Juan Castro.
Former Marlins/Nationals/Expos/Yankee first baseman Nick Johnson is getting a lot of attention so far this offseason. When he did play for the Marlins this year, he racked up an OBP over .470.
Around MLB
In what proved to be an even surer thing than the AL voting, the NL MVP award went to Albert Pujols. Joe Posnanski writes that Pujols is ALREADY a Hall of Famer. He also looks at David Wright as getting there some day.
A-Rod's ex-wife Cynthia has a new man in her life who apparently is not as good looking as Alex.

My anonymous sources tell me . . .
. . . that the Mets are intrigued by Bengie Molina’s ability to perform magic tricks.

Ambivalent about the new unis.
I maintain that pinstripes should be left to that other NY team. That said, the best thing about the new look is the absence of black. The team should banish not only the black alternate softball team shirts (which they sometimes stupidly wear on broiling summer afternoons), but also the black hats and the black trim on the snow-whites (which are otherwise their best look).
i love the black unis, i think they should be our main uniform
i hate these new eggshell color pinstriped ones

I like them too

I don't get it
give me the off-white beauty of a real baseball uniform over the little league looking bright whites that have become common

I like the black unis

ugh - hate hate hate the black unis
or more accurately, i hate that black is in the mets color scheme. i not think that the solid black shirts like bad on a purely aesthetic basis but black the color has no business being on a mets uniform, nor did it ever.
in conclusion: gross, barf.
Lets hope that when gut check time comes again the Mets will pass it with flying colors.

I would like them to wear their proper throwback uniforms
like the one Wright was wearing in the beaning game. As long as there’s no bad karma from that.
Pick a uniform and stick with it!
You know what really grinds my gears! I’m tired of this constant introduction of new jersey’s and the inevitable “which jersey are they wearing today?” guessing game. Pick a home jersey, pick and away jersey, and if you want to have an alternate style give it a designated day. (like the Padres Sunday camouflage uni’s, but not something that ugly)
Personally I would like to see the 80’s uniforms with the racing stripe on the side. As ugly as they are I love those jersey’s.
Bring back the Mercury Mets!

actually looking through an online book of mets uniforms
some i wouldnt mind bringing back (and some BP jerseys i’d be interested in them wearing for a game):

I could run faster than Bengie Molina...
…to get away from those uniforms.
The only person who should ever wear a jersey that orange is Tsuyoshi Shinjo.

i actually like the orange
it’s different and edgy

The orange one is kinda cool
but the rest of them are awful

this is baseball, not Fashion Week
“edgy” is not something I feel a particular need for the Mets to strive for.
the word I would’ve chosen is “eye-searing”, by the way.
Wait
Mets had a guy named Dromerhauser? Sweet.

Math Question
If a Benjie Molina leaves home plate traveling at his maximum speed .0002 miles per hour, exactly how many hours/days later would he arrive at home plate?
I think you might be over-estimating his maximum speed.

341 hours, or 14.2 days
whichever you prefer. Thats assuming he ran in the proper direction, if he gets lost it could take longer.

Trick question
Razor tells him to take second on a ball in the gap, and he gets tagged out 12 feet past first base.

Lose the black!
Get rid of the black drop shadow and go back to blue and orange! Adding black was a trendy thing when it was first introduced. Not so much anymore.
Exactly.
It was a bandwagon move because that’s what the kool kids were wearing in the 90’s. Time’s up on that stupid trend.

Imagine
if Molina is used in a Coors Light Freeze cam? How could we tell the difference between that and live action?
by Mackey Sasser on Nov 25, 2009 12:32 PM EST up reply actions
Not only Molina
but the K-rod contract is their ideal, are they gonna give Molina a ridiculously backloaded contract with an equally ridiculous vesting option?
I don't think that's exactly what's meant by that
What it seems to mean is that with the K-Rod contract, they had an idea of what they were willing to to pay and weren’t going to go over that amount, and they’re similarly not going to be drawn into paying over the price they have in mind for this year’s free agents either.
Now, the fact is that the contract they were willing to give K-Rod was probably more than they should have been, but that’s a separate issue IMO.
Yeah I didn't mean to imply that's what it meant
More to imply that in hindsight it seems everyone but them realizes the K-rod contract is pretty bad.
The orange unis are glorious
If we wore them everyday we’d win 120 games. Teams would be too blinded by the beauty to play.
I don't know, the orange needs just a little garnish to bring out the freshness
Maybe if you bust out the Bedazzler to go to work on the front and the names on the back, then you got something. I think I could live without a pennant if we had that freshness to look at.

I dunno...I'd have to see the matching helmets
if they are TERRIFICALLY LARGE Davy Wright style, then I’m down.

I hate
the block-letter road uni’s. Too much Yankeewannabeism for my taste.
Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the street: wheredotheygo?!?!?
Molina?!? That's a slap in the crotch
The METZ already have an (baseball card) ALL STAR (rookie) CATCHER
His name is OMIR and it rhymes with MAGIC!!

i know by "wrong" the kids today mean
“right”, so…
riddle me this:
wouldn’t you rather the Mets continue to play Omir (shoots lightning bolts out of hands) than sign Molina (shoots dust out of his rear) to another demoralizing waste of money contract?

Catcher
I wish I knew that Doumit of Snyder were healthy. They actually have some chance of being good. I understand the options at catcher available on the FA market aren’t good, so I promise not to scream too much as long as Omar 1) doesn’t commit to a multiyear deal, and 2) doesn’t forfeit a draft pick.
Everytime I read JoPos...
I walk away thinking, “How am I NOT reading him everyday?” What a treasure.

I've had him bookmarked for months
but I finally put him right on my toolbar thing a few days ago. Now he’s always just one click away

Of course Omar is very intrigued by Molina.
He’s an idiot.

HoF
With the HoF potential candidates, I can’t agree with Sabathia. Ryan Zimmerman, maybe. I think that his lack of attention/awards can either make him end up like Hodges, where his numbers are good and borderline, but people cite his lack of awards, or like Juan Marichal, where people overlook that fact, because he played during a time when there were other, more well known, more dynamic third basemen out there (Wright, Jones, A-Rod in the AL…).
