Another Reader Poll: Blasto or Frenchy
While I work on some more real content, I thought of another potentially interesting poll. I know there isn't a real-life situation where this will become relevant; I'm just wondering.

You dont have to ask me twice...
I’ll take the former first rounder who has driven in 400, you can keep the former first rounder who hasn’t done squat.
Happy Thanksgiving AA!
We don't do RBI's here
Lastings FTW

I'm sending an army...
of Frenchy lovers to your site.
I actually like Frenchy
I look past his occasional statistical shortcomings and focus on how well he did with the Mets this season and the intangibles he brings to the team

Ha
I was wondering how Francoeur got 62% of the vote.

YOU MEAN WINCOUER???
he is practically worshiped around these parts.
Lets hope that when gut check time comes again the Mets will pass it with flying colors.
I lobby his name be changed to NeutraCoeur
A. It sounds awesome
B. Marginal Win Value = ~$4.4 million. Francoeur’s projected salary = ~$4.4 million. Francoeur’s projected value = ~1 WAR. Neutral value Jeff Francoeur = NeutraCoeur!

From the same manufacturer of Neutrogena, though he is bad for our hearts.
I was going to relate it to one AA member, but better not.
Ask your doctor if NeutraCoeur is right for you.
Side effects may include: wild, uncontrollable aggression towards baseballs; loss of self-discipline; sudden interest in dressing fashionably; and an inexplicable love of Delta Airlines.

If loving Lastings is wrong...
I don’t want to be right.
The numbers are comparable with Francoeur getting the edge in power (both in past and 2010 Bill James projections), but I just have a lot more fun rooting for Meek Millz.
Plus, of course
L Millz be the president.

Oh boy do I remember the fateful day when the trade was announced. A day that will live in Blastingsthrilledge infamy. This trade single handedly brought down a blog.
The blog post reads as follows:
*UCK (edited by me)
Mets trade Milledge. For Brian Schneider and Ryan Church.
Wow. Just wow.
What a simply horrible trade.
Kazmir, Part 2.
Milledge for a league-average outfielder and a mediocre catcher.
Lastings will outperform Church next year.
Simply amazingly bad.
What the *uck? Can this be true?

I have often felt that the love for Milledge around here was a little over the top at times. I will concede however that Milledge was raked over the coals for saying a few swears in a shitty rap album that nobody ever listened to, meanwhile Chase Utley says “World F***ing Champions” in front of millions and he’s a rock star for it. Seems a little odd.
With that said, I think I would take Frenchy, though if I would prefer neither.
No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.
That Frenchy love is over-the-top
Aren’t they the same guy, expect race? Both are former 1st round picks that haven’t lived up to their hype (dale murphy clone for one and flanking F! and Beltran the other) and both desire to be in the music industry. So shouldn’t this really be a coin-flip?
Which determines who gets the ball in overtime which, although the giants won because of it, I still think is a stupid rule. Oops sorry, wrong blog.
If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.
Milledge

I voted Francouer
I liked Milledge a lot, but the fact is that he sucks. So does Francouer, but I’m at least hopeful that he can have a decent power season this year and then the Mets will let him walk. I don’t think Milledge will ever be anything more than a spare outfielder on bad teams.

OPS+ after trade
Francouer: 120
Milledge: 95
I’m assuming Milledge’s WAR was higher b/c of his defense, since they both have pretty crappy plate discipline, and I’m not sure how much you can trust a 58 game sample size for a guy who is a career -10.0 UZR/150 outfielder. Sorry Sam, Lasting sucks. And again, so does Francouer, but hopefully the Mets only get one year of Francouer suck as opposed to many years of Milledge suck.

surface analysis
Lastings’ 10 UZR/150 is based on his defense in CFer the year he was injured with the nationals. How can you compare a CFers defense with a RFers?? That’s opposite ends of the defensive spectrum. His time with the Pirates was the first time he’s been A. Healthy and B. given time to play his natural position. The sample size in CF is no bigger than the one in LF and the one for LF is the only one we have from last year in which he was 10 UZR/150. I’d say he’s probably a +5 +10 leftfielder.
Also, his plate discipline 7 BB% is basically average, compared to Francoeur who is total dreck. If you adjust for luck…or even if you don’t, Milledge is a replacement level hitter with considerable power upside, while Francoeur is below replacement with some of that upside.
You can apologize again when Milledge is a 3 WAR leftfielder next season.
I'll believe it when I see it
and I’m pretty confident I won’t see it. Milledge sucks.

that's a fair point
which I acknowledged in my first two posts. I just think one year of an overpaid sucky player is better than a few years of an appropriately paid sucky player. I’d rather just not have any sucky players on the roster

Yeah but do you really expect Omar to just keep Frenchy for one year?
Plus more than likely we’ll find someone else who sucks and pay them more, to sit on the bench, than Milledge will be getting paid. Sullivan made 600 K last year which is still more than Milledge.
I'm hoping Omar gets fired before it comes to that
but you’re probably right

Alright the follow up is
who wants to make a non-monetary bet with me that next year, Milledge outperforms Francoeur?
How much is Milledge getting paid?
I don’t think there’s much difference between them and I imagine Milledge is being paid well less than Frenchy.
That is why I voted for BT! The financial flexiblity he gives you is too good to ignore. I also worked off the asumption that he is going to get better. His defense seems to be getting better now that he isn’t in CF. At the corners, his range would surely improve. Oddly, he appears to be a better fielding LF than RF. I blame sample size for this. When I play in CF I find it easier to make reads, but RF is harder because you don’t see the contact point, thus screwing up the read. The ball sort just appears out of nowhere in LF. RF is different though, you get to see the contact point more often because there are more righties than lefties.
I think his bat will improve. It has to. His bat is too quick for him not to develop into a solid hitter. I could see his numbers really spiking as he reaches his prime.

I don't really want any of them on the Mets
but if i had to pick i would pick Frenchy.Mostly because he’s white, has grit, plays with heart ,wears sunglasses, has a cannon of an arm and catches home run balls
DO WHAT JOSE REYES DO!!!

though he made some pretty big ones that failed (Heilman for 2 in 2006, running out brian Lawrence every 5 days in ’07

But he didn’t make me feel completely hopeless like Jerry does.
At least Willie was a local guy and all.

I voted for Lastings for financial reasons, but obviously Frenchy gives more memes options.
I’ve never heard of L-Milz Avenue.
